Going Whole Hog at SF Chefs

One of the seminars I attended at SF Chefs, San Francisco's second annual food festival, was dedicated to pig. It was hosted by the National Pork Board and Tom Pizzica, finalist on the current season of the Next Food Network Star and host of an upcoming show on the Food Network. Stephen Gerike, of the pork board, showed the small crowd how to butcher a whole hog, then Tom used the meat to create three delicious dishes that we got to sample.

Which Heart Spots Are Cuter?

First there was Heart-kun, a Chihuahua puppy born with a heart shaped marker on his coat and then there was Valentine, a piglet with unique heart markings that was born in the UK.

Pig Just Keepin' It Real This Christmas

During a live taping of a Mad TV parody, the token pig decides to flex his acting muscles— resulting in the grossest, most disturbing display of Christmas "giving" you'll ever see.

How Does This Photo Make You Feel?

I recently attended the Food & Wine 2007 American Wine Awards. While there I tasted some great wine, and feasted on some tasty eats. The folks from Delfina were serving up tasty pork sandwiches, and as I waited for mine, I snapped this photo. I think it's delicious, but understand that others might not agree. So tell me, how does this photo make you feel?

Lil' Pig Grill: Love It Or Hate It?

Oh my. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need this.

Oh my.
I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need this. I'm trying to convince myself that this Lil' Pig Grill is horribly tacky (because it is). I'm trying to convince myself that the amazing grill we have at home would kick this one's ass and therefore make this grill moot (because it would). And yet, somehow I think I really need this... Okay, actually now that I'm looking at it for much longer, its eyes need to be cuter more like ^^ instead of @@ - this one doesn't have me completely sold. However if you're interested it costs $1495. There's also a Longhorn Steer version if the pink piggy is too much for you.

So tell me, is the Lil' Pig Grill too much for you?

More Interspecies Lovin'

The openness of the animal kingdom continues to astound me.

The openness of the animal kingdom continues to astound me. This baby tiger is being raised by a sow alongside piglets in the Guandong province of China. I know I'm getting all Disney on you guys, but in this harsh world, it's nice to know that, even if only for a time, predator and prey can get along.

Today is National Roast Suckling Pig Day?

Here's a crazy cool fact to brighten up your Monday: today is National Roast Suckling Pig Day!

Here's a crazy cool fact to brighten up your Monday: today is National Roast Suckling Pig Day! OK, ok you're probably asking yourself, National Roast Suckling Pig Day?! I did the same when I found out, thought it was too out there to be true. But research proved it is in fact National Roast Suckling Pig Day. Although I doubt any of us will be roasting a suckling pig today (if you are or you have, I want to hear about it!)-or any day soon-I did try it once in Segovia Spain and it was actually delicious. Roast Suckling Pig is a speciality of Segovia, where it is called cochinillo (pronounced co-chee-nee-o). Today try and get the word out, let's all tell one random person - the barista at Starbucks, the driver of your taxi or anyone you see on the street - that today is National Roast Suckling Pig Day.
