Even Bean Haters Will Love This Bean Salad

Over the Summer we took advantage of the season's wide variety of produce and shared our best salad recipes.

Over the Summer we took advantage of the season's wide variety of produce and shared our best salad recipes. However, one salad, the bean salad, was overlooked. Luckily reader Lengel has shared her rendition of bean salad in the Kitchen Goddess group on the YumSugar Community. Want your recipes and photos to be shared here on YumSugar? Start participating in the community!
Lengel, who has her own food blog, Working Girls Kitchen, is not a fan of bean salads. Although she finds them to be totally unappealing, she describes this salad recipe — which comes from another popular food blogger, Heidi Swanson — to be simple, yummy, and surprising. Pan-roasted carrots and fresh dill take ordinary canned beans to a whole new level. I agree with Lengel when she says, "this is a great dish for any picnic and will work great for work lunches." We are currently fixated on red, white, and blue foods, and this berry lemon meringue cake is absolutely no exception. If you're short on ideas for an Independence Day dessert, this cake would be perfect. After all, what could be more festive (and all American) than super-seasonal berries, moist white cake, and a fluffy meringue topping? When I make this for my friends and family, I'll throw in fresh blueberries for added holiday measure. Get into the Fourth of July spirit when you read more

Whenever I'm in the mood for bold, robust flavors, my go-to meal is chicken Parmesan.

Whenever I'm in the mood for bold, robust flavors, my go-to meal is chicken Parmesan. Not only do I get to enjoy the savory richness of marinara sauce with Italian herbs, but I dream of warm, melted cheese and tender, succulent cutlets. My newest obsession is a version of the dish that TeamSugar member My Opinion came up with. While chicken Parmesan's already affordable to make, her version, which incorporates a quick homemade marinara sauce, is even more budget-friendly. By omitting the breadcrumbs, she also makes it healthier! Enjoy this protein-rich meal on a dime when you read more

Reader Recipe: Fried Chicken

Call me crazy — or attribute it to some bizarre form of reverse psychology — but all that hoopla over KFC's grilled chicken left me craving crispy, spicy, hot-out-of-the-oil fried chicken.

Call me crazy — or attribute it to some bizarre form of reverse psychology — but all that hoopla over KFC's grilled chicken left me craving crispy, spicy, hot-out-of-the-oil fried chicken. TeamSugar member GinaGaladriel must have read my mind: using Cajun spices and Goya seasoning, she modified a fried chicken recipe she saw on YouTube to her family's liking. Now that I've witnessed the power of Gina's fried chicken, it may be time to put aside childish thoughts of grilled chicken and whip up a batch of my own chicken-fried goodness. Be it Eritrean cooking or Colombian cuisine, I'm obsessed with trying new foods from around the world. I'm sad to say I haven't made it to any Scandinavian countries yet — but thanks to FinnLover, I'm dying to go now. During a recent trip to visit her husband's family in Finland, she ate her way through a number of Finnish specialties, like Ruisleipä, or black rye bread, shown above. Savory Sight: Quiche With Potato Crust

Suffice it to say we've been obsessed with everything eggs, as evidenced by everything from breakfast tarts to our search for stylish Easter egg cups.

Suffice it to say we've been obsessed with everything eggs, as evidenced by everything from breakfast tarts to our search for stylish Easter egg cups. The eggcellent endeavor has yet to end: I flipped for this eggy, cheesy vegetable quiche that staff member Garrick made over the weekend. I love quiche to begin with — but it's the baked-til-crisp potato hash crust that I've completely fallen for. To see how the quiche got its unique crust, read more

One of life's pleasures is spotting a mouthwatering recipe to add to your repertoire, reading through it, and realizing you already have many of the items on the ingredient list. This was the case when I came across Syako's recipe for fruit turnovers, which transforms everyday ingredients like cream cheese, puff pastry, milk, and jam into flaky, golden pockets of nectar. Since I happen to have all of these things in my pantry at this very moment, I've decided there's no time like the present, and I'll be making these tonight! To get the recipe, read more

Reader Recipe: Chocolate Chip Pancakes With Blueberry Syrup

Cooking when you don't have all the ingredients on hand can be frustrating, but it can also be empowering: Since you have to think on your feet, some of the most successful outcomes are born out of limited circumstances.

Cooking when you don't have all the ingredients on hand can be frustrating, but it can also be empowering: Since you have to think on your feet, some of the most successful outcomes are born out of limited circumstances.

TeamSugar regular FinnLover has long been the master of innovatively tweaking reliable recipes based on what she has in her kitchen. So guess what happened when she ran out of maple syrup for her pancakes? Finn improvised (and improved) her recipe by adding chocolate chips to her pancakes and using frozen blueberries stowed in her freezer to make a delectable compote. Reader Recipe: Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

My girlfriends are always asking for recipe recommendations, but they have pretty high demands.

My girlfriends are always asking for recipe recommendations, but they have pretty high demands. They usually want something that's effortless, delicious, healthy, comforting, and inexpensive all at the same time. Thankfully, with the help of one reader, I know what my next suggestion will be.

According to TeamSugar member mellie_608, it's debatable whether these golumpki are Swedish or Polish, but what can be agreed upon is that these stuffed cabbage rolls — seasoned with tomatoes, lemon, Worcestershire sauce, and a tad of brown sugar for sweetness — are incredibly juicy and tender.
