Ryan Scott on Top Chef All-Stars Episode 13

Our favorite food truck chef is back!

Our favorite food truck chef is back! Owner of 3-Sum Eats and past Top Chef competitor Ryan Scott is here to share his thoughts on last night's Bahamas episode of Top Chef All-Stars. Take it away Chef Scott!Hey guys, you know, I must say, it does feel somewhat surreal watching friends of yours on a show that you were once on. That surreal feeling deepens especially considering these are close friends — people I have cooked with and have nothing but the utmost respect for. For instance, last weekend I was out in Charleston, SC, doing a cooking competition with Carla Hall and then three days later she's on the TV staring back at me as I kick back on the couch with my girlfriend. These are some of my favorite people in the world here, and some serious chefs too.

It can get straight up emotional to watch. There's a whole lot more than just a cooking competition on the line right now — there's integrity, reputation, jobs, families, mortgages. Not to get all sappy on you here folks, but a lot can be won or lost on this show. I don't know y'all (just picked up the y'all in South Carolina, thinkin' about bring it back to the Bay Area) sorry that I'm not as funny right now as I have been in the past, but this stuff is real.

Ryan Scott on Top Chef All-Stars Episode 7

Ryan Scott is back!

Ryan Scott is back! Here, you can find out what he thought of last night's restaurant wars on Top Chef All-Stars.

Restaurant wars huh . . . this episode is most likely going to rock the excitement boat.

Richard Blais's banana and Nutella snack at the house looks like one of the most appetizing pairings on the show so far. If only he smeared it on a rice cake and topped it with Lay's potato chips.

Wow! A competition at Le Bernardin presents quite the challenge. I had an opportunity to stage there and let me tell you, that kitchen is no joke. The wall in the corner of Le Bernardin became my best friend I was so nervous just being in the presence of that kitchen staff. Watching Gusto rapidly separate the fish is a work of art. He's a total rock star and I want him in my kitchen. Well wishful thinking at the least.

For the all-star season of Top Chef, we have a special person recapping the show. Previous Top Chef participant Ryan Scott! Here are his thoughts on last night's episode.Top Chef All-Stars Episode 4A stuffing quickfire challenge? Ask family, friends, and clients: I could stuff every one of the contestants on this one. In fact, I've got some in the fridge right now. Lots of inventiveness in this challenge. Carla turned into cave woman, and I'm proud of Fabio using his noggin to grate the cheese on the shelving. I can see it now: Fabio will be the new spokesperson for retro racks at Walmart. Way to go, Tre . . . so much for me getting signed for Swanson's spokesperson again.

For the all-star season of Top Chef, we have a special person recapping the show. Previous Top Chef participant Ryan Scott! Here are his thoughts on last night's episode.WOW! Before I start, talk about some Top Chef news this week! Congrats to Harold on his glowing review from the New York Times. That's a tremendous honor, especially in NYC where the critics are very . . . critical. Second of all, I would like to congratulate Ilan and Ayame on their newborn baby. Lastly, Spike, happy birthday, my brother, from season four. Congrats on all of your success and kudos to many more on the horizon!

OK! Let's get down with last night's episode. HOLY CRAP!!!! David Chang. If you don't know who this cat is, you have been living under one of Hoss Zaré's 10 lb meatballs at Zare at Fly Trap. I have to say though that last night's episode seemed to be the least stimulating thus far. However, Dale T's comment about his fat hands did get my attention.

What a tricky quickfire: I am amped that my boy Richard won. You go buddy! Let's admit it; he was clearly slided in the first week's episode with his disqualification. I think he has the most promising chance of taking home the trophy.

There's no better person to comment on the all-star season of Top Chef than a previous contestant.

There's no better person to comment on the all-star season of Top Chef than a previous contestant. That's why we've asked Top Chef Chicago's Ryan Scott to watch the show and share his thoughts. Here's what he had to say about last night's shocking decision!

OK, I am not holding back my thoughts on this episode and will risk losing Facebook friends for it. I can't help myself. This season rocks!

Casey: I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when your brilliant idea of bacon and chocolate lasagna came into play for kids. Is that really what popped to mind? Wait, maybe it's like poached pears at a tailgating event.

Dale Talde is my boy, but dude! Your girlfriend doesn't have People magazine in your bathroom? Joe Jonas? Come on man, get with the times.

Jamie's going to be a great mother one day. It's good to see her genuine enthusiasm ooze with the kids at the museum challenge. Hope she's recovering well after the two stitches on her pinkie finger. That's got to be one painful "owie." I'm feeling a text from her in about eight hours from now when this hits the web . . .

Ryan Scott on Top Chef All-Stars Episode 1

Did you watch the first episode of Top Chef All-Stars last night?!

Did you watch the first episode of Top Chef All-Stars last night?! We did, and so did one of our favorite Top Chef contestants, Ryan Scott. Here, Ryan shares his thoughts on the show. Take it away, Chef Scott!

Wow! Memories. It's been three years since they shot my season of Top Chef and it's nice to see a lot of my good friends back on All-Stars. Dale Levitski was just in our living room a few months back. Here I am, laying in bed with my girlfriend, who has a backache, and me stuffed up cold, blogging just for you guys. After all, "people from all over the world have come to visit me." No, wait! That's Jamie.

Of course, my dear friend Richard would bring out the big guns on the first challenge; his liquid nitrogen. How the hell does he get that on the plane? Also, it's refreshing that Spike actually shaved for this season. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that Fabio's hairdresser could fit him in before they shot the show. Fabio knows I love him, and there's not a more traveled, harder-working top chef than him. So grow that hair out, brotha man.

To find out what Ryan thinks of the quickfire, Stephen's clothing choices, and Anthony Bourdain, keep reading.

Happy Hour: Ryan Scott's Lemon Drop

Jen Biesty may have taken top prize at last week's SF Chefs Top Chef Happy Hour, but on my judges' scorecard, chef Ryan Scott came in a close second.

Jen Biesty may have taken top prize at last week's SF Chefs Top Chef Happy Hour, but on my judges' scorecard, chef Ryan Scott came in a close second. The charismatic chef showed he's got skills behind the bar with his update on that classic girly drink known as the Lemon Drop.

Despite his use of brown sugar simple syrup, Scott's version of the Lemon Drop was more tart than the standard — not a bad thing for a drink with a cloying reputation. My favorite tweak was his version of the cocktail's sugared rim garnish, which employed honey, crushed lemon candy, and sea salt for a pluckier finish. For a more playful take on the traditional tipple, read more.

His delicious food is comforting yet sophisticated, familiar yet complex. If you're in the Bay Area, I highly recommend checking out the cafe. His homemade croutons (found in everything from soups to salads) are the best I've ever tasted. If you aren't in the area, bring a little bit of Ryan into your home with this amazing crouton recipe.
Instead of writing out the recipe, Scott, a hands on chef, preferred to teach me personally how to make them. To go behind the scenes and learn how to make Chef Scott's scrumptious croutons, take a look at our exclusive video, and read more
