Bethenny Reveals Sangria Secrets as She Pokes Fun at Bravo
Memorable drinks and bites aren't the only things at play inside the South Beach Wine and Food Festival tents — the Grand Tasting Village also holds an impressive lineup of cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs and culinary personalities.
To my surprise, one of the most captivating (and entertaining) cooking demos came from Bravo's Bethenny Frankel. Although the Skinnygirl cocktails magnate was on hand to demonstrate pea guacamole and sangria, she really just wound up doling out zinger after zinger about sex and the Bravo network.
In between laughs, we did learn one great kitchen tip from her — how to make sangria even classier and more delicious. While prepping sangria, Bethenny swapped her ice for a bag of frozen mixed berries, a move she called cost-effective. We call it brilliant!
8 Spectacular Sangria Recipes
The last holiday weekend of the Summer is just around the corner and if you plan on hosting a party, you might be in need of a pitcher drink. My all-time favorite cocktail that can be made in a large quantity is sangria. It's super easy to put together and tastes better when it's made a day in advance, which is perfect for entertaining. I've been experimenting with different kinds of sangria since falling in love with Spain nine years ago; here's a roundup of the best sangria recipes out there.
Happy Hour: Strawberry Peach Sangria
There's no better way to celebrate the weekend than with a cocktail and some good company. Kick things into gear with this easy and delicious recipe for sangria. The red wine liqueur mixture is infused with peaches and strawberries, and it's topped with a little bit of sparkling water to provide a nice effervescence. The lemon wedge garnish is essential: it adds an tart balance to the concoction. Make this today!
Come Party With Me: Californian Thanksgiving — Drinks
Instead of serving a spirits-based specialty cocktail at my Californian Thanksgiving, I'll be pouring a wine-based drink that's garnished with icy grapes. The recipe is somewhat like sangria, but without the addition of liqueur. White wine is infused with fresh rosemary, mint, and lemon zest. It sits overnight until the wine has an aromatic herbal quality. It's a light, refreshing, and fruity start that will offset the heavy and rich meal perfectly. Don't skip the frozen grape step; it's a festive presentation and they end up looking like floating jewels in the infused white wine.

Berry Tempting: Berry Sangria
I've never met a sangria I didn't like, and this blushing variation with Rosé and raspberries is absolutely delightful. It's the ideal sort of drink to enjoy with salty nibbles while watching a late Summer sunset. Some tips: Be sure to make in advance, as this will give the ingredients time to meld. Don't skip the creme de cassis; it really develops the flavor of the berries and Rosé. Ask your local wine shop owner for the driest Rosé, otherwise the sangria will end up too sweet. You'll love sipping this pretty pink concoction, so get the recipe after the jump.
Happy Hour: Watermelon Sangria
One of my favorite online pastimes is browsing recipes. Not just any recipes, but appetizers and pitcher drinks (yes, I am obsessed with cocktail parties). Since I'm partial to certain recipe databases, when I come across a preparation I've never seen before, like this watermelon sangria, I'm super excited. As I read it, getting more and more giddy by the minute, I wondered, how had I never seen it before? I went through the recipe rolodex in my brain. There was nothing labeled watermelon sangria. I sent a link with the recipe to YumSugar asking her if it looked familiar. She had not seen it either. Thus, I made it the following day and received rave reviews. It was so refreshing and easy to drink that I made it again. And again. No joke, this watermelon sangria is my new favorite recipe! It's fruity, cooling, and addictive. Want to learn how it's done?
