Welcome Brussels Sprouts to the Thanksgiving Table

Although many people enjoy green beans on Thanksgiving, this year I'm suggesting you serve Brussels sprouts instead.

Although many people enjoy green beans on Thanksgiving, this year I'm suggesting you serve Brussels sprouts instead. This preparation, which tosses the sprouts with caramelized shallots, is my current fave. It's quick, easy, and very flavorful. Although the recipe doesn't say you can make it in advance, I did, and found it to be even more tasty the next day when it was reheated! Learn the uncomplicated method here.

Reader Recipe: Tarragon Pasta Salad With Asparagus and Tofu

This story was written by member girlA and comes from The Dairy Free Diva Recipe Exchange group in the YumSugar Community.

This story was written by member girlA and comes from The Dairy Free Diva Recipe Exchange group in the YumSugar Community. This is a wonderful take on pasta salads! With the flavor of the roasted asparagus, the baked tofu and shallots, there's no need for a heavy, rich mayo-sour cream dressing. The lemon juice and cayenne dressing is the perfect accompaniment to the other flavors. I just made a couple of small changes to the recipe for convenience, but I'll list the original recipe and my changes.

Fast & Easy Dinner: Sole With Lemon-Shallot Brussels Sprouts

With an epic feast only a few days away, shun poultry (you'll be having it for days!) in favor of something on the opposite end of the flavor spectrum, such as a flaky white fish.

With an epic feast only a few days away, shun poultry (you'll be having it for days!) in favor of something on the opposite end of the flavor spectrum, such as a flaky white fish. Not only does sole make for a lighter dinner alternative and a great source of protein, but it's also extremely affordable. Keep the preparation super simple by dredging the fillets briefly in a mixture of flour, lemon, and white pepper, then pan-sauté in olive oil.

Serve with market-fresh Brussels sprouts that have been tossed with parsley and shallots. The resulting dish is straightforward, yet elegant. For the recipe, read more.

Killer App: Blue Cheese and Arugula Crostini

Sometimes a cheese plate is too predictable, and a salad seems boring.

Sometimes a cheese plate is too predictable, and a salad seems boring. In those moments, I like to fix up a platter of these arugula-adorned crostini, which deliver both the richness of blue cheese and some greenery to get your meal going. To balance out the bitter greens and pungent cheese, I slice up a loaf of sweet cranberry-walnut bread, though any fruity and nutty dough will do. This appetizer is super easy to make, so it's perfect for a spontaneous dinner party or a dish that needs to travel. I recommend choosing a very strong cheese that's creamy and easy to spread. Sunday BBQ: Ground Lamb Kebabs

Ever since we had a detailed discussion in the office about how much we love lamb, I've been in the mood for it.

Ever since we had a detailed discussion in the office about how much we love lamb, I've been in the mood for it. Because I don't make it all that often, I want it to be something special — yet not too expensive.

That's why I decided on a distinctive recipe for kofta, or ground meat kebabs, that calls for lamb, silky crème fraîche, delicate shallots, and pomegranate molasses for a complex yet delicate flavor.

These go on the grill first, before being simmered for a bit on the stovetop, which helps turn them tender and unctuous. See the recipe after the break

Say Cheese! Baked Brie With Mushrooms

One of the world's most beloved cheeses, brie dates back to the 8th century.

One of the world's most beloved cheeses, brie dates back to the 8th century. It's characterized by a creamy soft center and white edible rind. Although Brie originates in France, it's so popular that countries across the world now produce it. Brie is made from whole or skimmed cow's milk. When perfectly ripe, the interior should ooze. Brie has a short shelf life and mild flavor. The versatile cheese can be eaten alone or spread on crackers and bread. Since it's ideal for melting, baked brie is another desirable method of preparation. To find out how I baked mine with mushrooms, read more

Homemade Cranberry Sauce Is Simply Delicious

While some people swear by canned cranberry, in my opinion, nothing beats a homemade variation.

While some people swear by canned cranberry, in my opinion, nothing beats a homemade variation. Making cranberry is incredibly easy. All you have to do is combine the components in a pot and simmer for 20 minutes. From jelly to gelatin, there are many ingredients that can be mixed with the cranberries. In this recipe, plump dried cherries add a sweet tartness to the sauce, while fresh orange juice provides a nice acidity. When I was cooking it, I considered pureeing it in the food processor to make it smooth, but in the end, I decided the chunks of cranberry were necessary for a rich texture.
