Kid-Friendly Products That Take the Burn Out of Bandage Removal and Shots

The sting of shots and the burn of bandage removal are two things sick kids endure, and watching the processes can be equally painful for their parents.

The sting of shots and the burn of bandage removal are two things sick kids endure, and watching the processes can be equally painful for their parents. This morning, Dr. Travis Stork showed Rachael Ray a few of his favorite products to quell the pain. The first is a natural tonic concocted by an 8-year-old girl called Taking Off ($7 for 4 oz. bottle) that eases the rip of removing a band-aid. I wish this genius potion had been around when my epidural tape had to come off! And the second must have is Buzzy ($35), a vibrating bee, that distracts a tot's attention away from the needle that is being injected. The insect comes with gel and ice wing sets, batteries, and a Velcro strap.

Would You Rather Take a Shot of Tequila or Whiskey?

Since it's cocktail week here in San Francisco, I have spirits on the brain.

Since it's cocktail week here in San Francisco, I have spirits on the brain. When I was in my early 20s, I always took shots of tequila; however, now if someone offers me a shot, I ask for whiskey. Which do you prefer?

Get Your Shots, It's National Immunization Awareness Month

I dislike needles with a strong passion — I've even fainted before having blood drawn.

I dislike needles with a strong passion — I've even fainted before having blood drawn. But even though needles freak me out, I make sure that I am always up to date with my immunizations. August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and if you don't know where you stand with vaccinations like tetanus, HPV, or Hepatitis B, now is the time to check.

The goal of National Immunization Awareness Month is pretty self-explanatory. Use this month to encourage your family members and friends to make sure all of their immunizations are current. And, of course, don't forget about yourself! Many vaccines are key in protecting ourselves against highly infectious illnesses like the measles, flu, or chickenpox. Left unchecked, many of these infectious diseases can result in death.

If you're not sure what shots you may be due for, make an appointment with your doc, or check out this vaccinations for adult schedule.

Edible Shot Glasses: Love Them or Hate Them?

Edible shot glasses are nothing new — I've seen candy cane and chocolate ones — but until the other day, I'd never heard of gummy shot glasses.

Edible shot glasses are nothing new — I've seen candy cane and chocolate ones — but until the other day, I'd never heard of gummy shot glasses. While shots in general are a little frat-ish, I think edible shot glasses are really fun. At the right time and right occasion, they can make a party more fabulous. How do you feel about them?

Come Party With Me: Super Bowl — Drinks

When I think of the Super Bowl one drink comes to mind: beer.

When I think of the Super Bowl one drink comes to mind: beer. If you have a large crowd coming, consider getting a keg of your favorite beer. A keg should be ordered several days in advance and picked up the morning of the game. If your group is small, stock up on an assortment of brews and plenty of ice. To get the party going, make Jell-O shots. When guests arrive hand them a gourmet, mojito-flavored Jell-O shot. Instead of using the classic powder to make the shot, this recipe calls for gelatin, rum, and simple syrup. Start making the shots several hours before the game as they'll need time to set. Happy Hour: X-Rated Fusion Liqueur

While I normally prefer a classic cocktail or a glass of good whiskey, I've been known to enjoy a girly drink (or two) in my lifetime.

While I normally prefer a classic cocktail or a glass of good whiskey, I've been known to enjoy a girly drink (or two) in my lifetime. Recently I've become obsessed with this brilliantly pink liqueur, X-Rated ($27).

At first, the cheesy name and vibrant color made me nervous. I was afraid it was going to be overly sweet — more like cough syrup than a luscious liqueur. However, the rosy liquid is absolutely delicious! A fusion of French vodka and organic blood orange, mango, and passion fruit juices, the liqueur tastes fresh not artificial. It's sweet, but not overly so. I served a chilled shot to girlfriends before a night on the town, but it would also be a flavorful addition to specialty cocktails.

If you're hosting a bachelorette party or bridal shower, consider serving X-Rated. Your girlfriends will love the taste and the experience of sampling a new liqueur. A bottle also makes a lovely birthday gift for a fashionable 21-year-old.

Have you tried X-Rated? What did you think?

Come Party With Me: Bachelorette — Drinks

Having a fabulous selection of alcoholic beverages at your bachelorette party is as important as having delicious food.

Having a fabulous selection of alcoholic beverages at your bachelorette party is as important as having delicious food. Drinks will help unacquainted guests mingle more freely and will allow the entire group to loosen up.

For Elena's lingerie shower in my Vegas hotel room, I'll have an unlimited supply of her favorite Champagne, Sofia Blanc de Blancs. To get guests in a wild mood, I'll set shots of kamikaze on ice around the room. Plenty of chilled bottled water is also a must. For more wedding ideas, go to IDoSugar. Do You Always Go to Your Vet for Vaccinations?

Even though North loves his vet – and I make sure to take him to necessary evaluations – he also spends time around other pups both at daycare or Pet Camp while I'm away.

Even though North loves his vet – and I make sure to take him to necessary evaluations – he also spends time around other pups both at daycare or Pet Camp while I'm away. Several boarding facilities require Bordetella vaccinations performed every six months . . . which is more often than he needs to go in for a checkup. Now, North doesn't get that much QT with a vet, and many docs also charge an exam fee per visit (in addition to this shot). When my pooch needs his Bordetella updates, I often take him to a mobile service that will just administer it on a per-shot basis. Do you ever use services like this to get your pets vaccinated?
