Jamba Juice sure has a lot going on. It just rolled out probiotic smoothies and has been testing custom-blendable frozen yogurt, a new menu item that the company plans to expand over the course of the year. And beginning today, stores across the country will offer smoothies blended from both fruit and vegetables.

For now, the company's new Fruit & Veggie Smoothies come in three flavors: BerryUpBeet, Apple 'n Greens, and Orange Carrot Karma. All contain three servings of fruits and vegetables in every drink serving and are free of artificial flavors, preservatives, and high-fructose corn syrup. Recently, I watched a colleague of mine slowly down a large glass of beet, carrot, and celery juice in attempts to atone for a weekend of indulgences. With the grimace that accompanied every sip, you could imagine the inner monologue: "This is healthy. This is healthy. This is healthy." Although I have learned to love carrot juice, I much prefer to actually eat beets and celery. I have tried many veggie juices and am not really a fan. What about you?

However all of my fellow students thought it was weird, disgusting and downright scary. I recall pretending I didn't like it as much as I really did - making it seem like I was forced to drink it. Now, many years later, I realize it wasn't me or my beverage choice, but it was those kids who were weird, disgusting and downright scary. I have no problems with letting everyone know I love the salty, vegetable goodness.
