Recently, I got a little carried away in a canning experiment and wound up returning from the farmers market with a 50-pound crate of tomatoes. Needless to say, the past week has involved a lot of meals made with tomatoes — an insightful exercise in cooking with (and trying to get rid of) ingredients that are already available at home.
After learning how to be a bit more resourceful with my refrigerator and pantry, I decided to try the same thing with cocktails, so I made a drink using whatever was already in my kitchen. I combined lemons and simple syrup — two ingredients I always have on hand — with Angostura bitters and Beefeater 24, a tea-infused gin. The result? A botanical beverage with just the pluck I was going for. For the recipe, keep reading.
Williams-Sonoma's new line of healthy living equipment, appropriately called Agarian, has caught our eye since day one. With that said, here are 20 pieces from Agrarian that we totally dig. Click through, and tell us your favorite in the comments!

The pumpkin frozen yogurt trend is still on its sweet streak, while pumpkin smoothies have popped up at Jamba Juice. But how does the flavor translate at home? Only one way to find out: make pumpkin ice cream! That's what I did and the resulting cold treat is insanely delicious and absolutely satisfying. It has a gorgeous Fall hue, rich pumpkin flavor, and creamy thick texture. Classic pumpkin pie spices and a splash of bourbon give the ice cream a nice, homemade depth. I served it with buttermilk spice cake, but it would be scrumptious sandwiched between two cookies or slathered with hot fudge sauce on a brownie sundae. Interested in the recipe? Look at it after the jump.
This month, I've shifted my focus from Summer cookout food to something a little more soothing, but amidst a San Francisco Indian Summer, I'm not quite ready to plunge into full-blown Fall fare just yet. So in addition to treasuring those timeless staples, I've also looked for recipes that fall (pardon the pun) right in between those two seasons. One such gem is this slow-cooked dish of chicken with fresh tomatoes.
It incorporates the sunny flavor of Early Girl tomatoes with the reassuring tenderness of chicken braised in its own stock. Lighten it up with skinless chicken breast, swap out the sage for tarragon or basil, or use cherry or heirloom tomatoes instead. The result is a sumptuous main meal that's fantastic over grits, polenta, or mashed potatoes. Savor the in-between moment when you keep reading.
If you needed an excuse for a baking marathon this weekend, Williams-Sonoma can take the blame as it just released a line of Marvel comic baking supplies. With minicake pans, cupcake decorations, and a legion of cookie-cutter sets, home bakers can satisfy a sweet tooth and display some Avengers pride. Marvel even created a digital comic book for the baking line, where familiar superheroes team up to save children from a lack of decorated cookies.
