How to Prepare Cantaloupe

Aug 29 2008 - 4:30am Cantaloupe is one of those things that I see a lot in salad bars and packaged fruit salads but rarely in bagged lunches or at friends' homes. Perhaps if more people knew the right way to cut this fragrant melon, it would be more of a household staple. View this slideshow to learn how simple cantaloupe is to prepare. Start Slideshow

when i was younger i would always cut a cantaloup in the long curved slices w/ the rind attached and that's how i ate it but now that i've become older, i'm more of the cubing sector where i slide the thing and then cut it into cubes. it's easier to put in a fruit bowl and it's easier to transport if you take it to lunch.

i've even 'balled' it in the past but that takes a lot of unnecessary time and for what? so it looks pretty in a ball shape?

Ilanac, I cube it after I cut the slices. It's so much easier to remove the rind from a slice that to chop it so ugly like they did in the slideshow. You just run the knife in between the rind and the pulp. Then with the pulp still on top of the detached rind, you cube it diretly into a bowl. As simple as that, and not so much work.

We've never done it like the slide show...seems like a lot of work. But we usually just do like flyingroo, cut it into wedge sections, cut it vertically (on the fruit) to make cube pieces and then slice along the bottom at the rind to make the cubes fall into the bowl.
