When YumSugar suggested I make crackers as an edible gift, I immediately envisioned a cheesy cracker that would pair nicely with a bottle of bubbly. However, I realized that if I made a light, crisp herb-infused cracker instead, then I could gift it with a beautiful chunk of cheese. Who doesn't want homemade crackers and artisanal cheese?!

After getting several requests from readers for dessert sauce recipes, I added caramel sauce to my lineup of this year's edible gifts. Little did I know what I was getting myself into! On my first try, the sauce turned into a hardened mass of sugar — and the second time, too.

Last Christmas I really wanted to make the cookies that were on the final page of the December issue of Martha Stewart Living. It was a recipe for chocolate peppermint cookies dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with crushed peppermint candies. Unfortunately, I never got around to baking them.

Whether it's sweet, spicy pecans or smoky cashews, nuts have always been a part of my holiday tradition. This year, I decided, would be no different, only I would combine my nut of choice, crunchy roasted almonds, with all of my favorite flavor profiles — smoky, spicy, slightly garlicky — to create the most satisfying holiday snack ever. Because these nuts don't require a lot of energy, they're fantastic to give away as edible gifts over and over again.

Last year I really enjoyed making Kahlua, so when we decided to turn our edible gift series into an annual thing, I knew I would use the opportunity to experiment with another spirit, limoncello.
This vibrant yellow liqueur is produced in Southern Italy and is a combination of lemon zest, alcohol, water, and sugar. If you have a microplane, it's easy to do at home.

Latkes, Russian tea cakes, and plenty of other treats remind me of the holidays — but nothing feels more like Christmas than making my mother's date balls. Every year for as long as I can remember, my mother has given friends, neighbors, and co-workers her date balls. When I was a child and my main role was that of date-ball-roller, I thought the whole process was a big production.

Surprise your friends this holiday with the unique edible gift of quince paste. Quince is a fruit closely related to apples and pears, but it's most commonly cooked into a jam, paste, or pudding. In Spain, quince paste (dulce de membrillo) is served with manchego.

I first learned of white trash toffee, as it's called (no, I didn't make up the name!), many years ago when a former co-worker brought some in to the office and I couldn't stop putting it in my mouth. When I got my hands on the recipe, which came from her sister-in-law, I was shocked by how fast, easy, and inexpensive it is to put together — and I haven't stopped making it since.
If you have 15 minutes and any manner of chocolate, sugar, nuts, and crisp white cracker on hand, then you are ready to make this addictive homemade gift.
