Champagne Flute Fountain: Love It Or Hate It?

There is something about the word combination champagne fountain that makes me incredibly excited. Endless flowing champagne is a fantasy I've entertained ever since I learned my mom had one at her wedding. However the champagne flute fountain isn't exactly what I had in mind. I love this idea though: you'll never confuse your glass with someone else's glass and these can double as a pretty cool decoration when filled with something creative like colored rhinestones or m&ms. What I hate about them is the gigantic price tag that registers over a $1000! In an ideal world I could afford them, but until then I'll add these flutes to my champagne fountain fantasies. Simple Tip: Rim Champagne Flutes With Sugar

A couple of weeks ago FabSugar hosted a shopping event at Saks Fifth Avenue in San Francisco. The caterer of the party found a fun way to incorporate Sugar into the menu - they rimmed each of the champagne flutes with pretty pastel-colored sugar. The sugar wasn't flavored so it didn't affect the taste of the dry bubbly. This is a sweet way to incorporate color into a girlie party.

Wouldn't sugar-rimmed champagne glasses be fun at a baby or bridal shower? To rim the glasses, simply dip a flute into cold water and then the colored sugar. Carefully fill with sparkling wine.

Did anyone come to the party at Saks? What did you think of the sugary champagne?

Although I enjoy Champagnes like Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger as much as the next person, they're simply not in my budget to sip on a regular basis. Instead, I'm always combing the wine aisles, looking for something - American sparkling wine, Cava, Prosecco, you name it - that'll allow me to embark on a minor bubbly binge without breaking the bank.When I'm not crazy about a purchase that I've made, my favorite way to enjoy the rest of the bottle is by making a simple cocktail with sugar and bitters. It somehow brings out more of the bubbles, providing extra texture and a richness to the overall flavor. I love to serve it in a short glass rather than a flute; it makes me feel oh so Italian.
