My Golden Globes Viewing party is just three short days away. I'm so excited I feel as though I really am attending the show! Things have come together quite nicely, my girlfriend's have already received their invites, the menu and drinks are planned, and the decorations are in order. I'm ready to party, but there is one tiny aspect left, the music.

Since this party revolves around watching a show on TV, music is not super important. Instead of fretting about the music, make arrangements to view the show on your largest and best television. There needs to be comfortable seating for all of your guests and maybe a blanket or two in case the girls want to curl up after dinner.

Come Party WIth Me: Golden Globes Viewing - Decorations

Next Monday, I'm throwing a small Golden Globes Viewing party for me and my girlfriends. It's quite simple to plan a television/movie viewing party if you take it one step at a time. Each day this week I have been working on a different piece of the fiesta. Monday I sent invitations, Tuesday I chose a menu, yesterday I paired drinks with the menu, and today I have to figure out how I am going to decorate my house. This is an informal party that revolves around a television, so decorations will be kept to a minimum. I'll set up five TV dinner table trays, one for each of my guests and myself. On each TV dinner tray I'll place a gold place mat and a single place setting - complete with salad plate, soup bowl, water glass, and wine glass.

On each plate I'll place a shiny gold napkin. Then accompany that with a tiny vase filled with one golden rose cut close to the bud. Gold candles will glow in the background and the lights will be dimmed. I'll place the platter of salad, pot of soup, and plate of croutons on a long coffee table in the living room and allow guests to serve themselves during the commercial breaks. Dessert plates will sit, stacked neatly on the bar, next to the pitchers of water.

Come Party WIth Me: Golden Globes Viewing - Drinks

As you all know, I've been planning a Golden Globes Viewing party all week long. The event will take place next Monday at my house, where a small group of girlfriends and I will gather to eat, drink, and gossip about the show. Awards shows can be boring, so hosting a dinner watching party is a great way to make them more fun. If you are just starting out as a hostess, I recommend planning an event of these sorts because the show, in this case the Golden Globes, is your main inspiration. Conversation will flow naturally following incidents that happen during the program.

At a small party, I like to offer one specialty cocktail with appetizers followed by a white wine choice and a red wine choice to serve with dinner. With the warm crab mixture on tiny toasts, I'll shake up a round of Hollywood Martini. I've only invited four girlfriends which means I can mix the drinks individually for each guest when she arrives, without taking time away from the party. During the main course I'll offer a Sauvignon Blanc (white) or a Chilean red. Two pitchers, one full of still water and the other of sparkling, will be garnished with lemon slices and find a home on the bar next to the clean water glasses. This way the girls can help themselves when they want water. And to top it all off, I'll make a pot of coffee to accompany dessert.

Come Party With Me: Golden Globes Viewing - Menu

The Hollywood awards season starts next Monday, January 15, with the Golden Globe Awards. My favorite part of any award show is getting a glimpse of the amazing dresses, jewelry, and hairstyles that the stars wear. Instead of watching alone, I plan on inviting a small group of my close girlfriends over to dine and watch the show with me. Although the event will be low-key in comparison to the one we watch on TV, I want to make a luscious vegetarian meal full of flavor for the girlies to enjoy. Since the event will be attended by an all female crowd, and because several of my girlfriends are vegetarians or only eat fish, I will make a mostly meat-less meal. While we watch the pre-show and discuss the best dressed actresses, I'll serve a warm Crab Salad on Tiny Toasts. I don't want to miss any of the entertainment by having to slave over the stove so the dinner will consist of prep-ahead food. I'll dish out a hearty bowl of Cheddar Vegetable Chowder and plate up a Marinated Mushroom Salad with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes. The day before the party is Sunday and I'll take advantage of having the day off by making a Lemon Tart for dessert at the Golden Globe viewing.

Come Party With Me: Golden Globes Viewing - Invites

The Golden Globes air next Monday, January 15 (check out BuzzSugar's post on this year's Golden Globe nominees). You know how much I love to throw a party, so I've decided it's another opportunity to gather up the girls to gossip about the best dresses while we savor some good food and tasty drinks. An actual Golden Globe award is the inspiration for my invitation and I will create one by cutting out the shapes of the earth and continents on gold paper. On the front will be the golden earth and on the back I'll write or print out the details of the party.

To make the invitation you will need:

metallic gold paper in two tones (dark and light)
scissors
pencil
a circular shape about 4 inches in diameter
glue
a computer, printer, or fun pen

To assemble the invitation:

Using your circular shape, trace a circle onto one sheet of gold paper.
With this world map as your base, outline the basic shape of half of earth. One part of South/North America and one part Africa, Europe, and Asia on the second sheet of gold paper.
Glue the continent shapes into their proper location on the golden globe.
On the back write or print out, a sweet note with the information concerning the party:

YumSugar requests your attendance at a small, informal dinner to watch the Golden Globes Award Show on television, Monday January 15 at 4'o clock in the afternoon. Please RSVP by Saturday morning.
Send the invitations in elegant black envelopes with the addresses written in gold letters.

Alternately, call each of your close girlfriends and personally invite them each to join you for a light dinner and the golden globes.
