My mom is looking for a new napkin holder. The one she normally uses for Winter has a fat, little snowman design. After a couple of years, she has become sick of the cutesy image staring up at her during dinner, so I asked you to head off to market in search of a new napkin holder for her. The other day I talked about my love for a lizard-shaped bottle opener, and today, as I was browsing the Yum Market on TeamSugar, I noticed a wide variety of animal extras. When serving a bold and flavorful Thanksgiving dinner, the theme should carry over to the table setting. You don't need a tablecloth to add a sense of formality; a satin and embroidered runner is equally as festive. Set placemats in front of each chair and top with a shiny brown charger and white plate. Arrange the utensils and napkins on the placemats next to the chargers. Add white and red wine glasses to the upper right of the plate. Serve the food on light brown platters and the dessert in individual ramekins. Tea lights in globe candle holders create an illuminating and slightly romantic ambiance. Homemade leaf placecards provide an element of whimsy and a lush bouquet of plum flowers completes the look.

Create an icy cool look for an Italian Christmas Eve by using silver, clear, and diamond accents.

Cover the table with a damask, sage green tablecloth. Set your nice china on silver chargers. Roll sage green napkins into logs and slide into snowflake napkin rings.

Fill pitchers with sgroppino and pour into elegant triangular Champagne flutes. Set placecards in diamond studded place card holders.

Group green pillar candles together around the room and hang a crystal garland festively from the wall or ceiling. A vibrant red bouquet in a matching vase adds a much-needed punch of color.

Red and gold are the perfect colors for an elegant Chinese New Year dinner. Use Asian prints and symbols as accents. Start by covering the table in a rich red tablecloth. Set the table with gold plates, gold napkin rings, and golden stemmed flatware. Instead of a floral arrangement, place a large golden bowl in the center of the table. Fill with vibrant tangerines.

Glass barware with a dragon motif is divine for serving shinsei sangria. Run globular votives down the middle of the table. Place fresh bamboo planters in the corners of the dining space. Write the name of each guest on the back of traditional red envelopes and use instead of place card holders.

Come Party With Me: Budget Thanksgiving - The Look

Even on a budget, you can achieve a beautiful and elegant atmosphere for Thanksgiving dinner. Cover the table with a brown cloth. Search for a tablecloth that is on sale, or if you have access to a sewing machine, purchase some cheap fabric and sew a tablecloth. Shimmery paper makes an affordable place mat. Don't purchase new china; instead, use what you have on hand. Plain cotton napkins are environmentally friendly and inexpensive.

For a set of wine glasses, cutlery, and tealight votive holders, look no further than Ikea. It's a great place for large quantities at a low price.

Add an element of nature to the table with homemade place card holders. Write the names on the same paper as the place mats. Cut out and attach to a pinecone or tree spur with a satin ribbon. Avoid going overboard on the flowers; one simple bouquet is enough. Purchase the flowers at your local supermarket (instead of at a floral shop) and arrange yourself. Safeway and Trader Joe's usually have luscious bouquets for under $10.

Off to Market Recap: Hanukkah Dinner

I recently asked you to help me out with the tablescape for a Hanukkah dinner. I promised a girlfriend I would set her table in a blue and silver color scheme so she could spend her time cooking the meal. The inspiration for the table was this elegant blue champagne glass.The rest of the setting: tablecloth, plates, candles, etc, you found and added to the Yum Market with the tag of Hanukkah Dinner.

Thanks to Sugar reader KWM for being a total Yum Market super diva! She found the most amazing, beautiful goodies, I can't wait to set the table.

Tablecloth: First things first, I'll dress the table with the linen hemstitch tablecloth.

Candles:I'll arrange the vertical shimmer pillar candles to run down the center of the table. In between each blue pillar candle I'll place a silver Star of David votive candle holder.

Napkins: Next the blue cloth napkins with silver napkin rings will be placed on the center of each silver plate.

Cocktail Napkins: When my friend offers the champagne in the blue glasses she will hand each invitee a blizzard cocktail napkin.

Party Favors: Out of all the treats discovered, by far my favorite were the blue and silver Hanukkah crackers! Perfect fun extras. Seriously it's little special details like these, that will make this dinner memorable to all of its guests.

Dress Your Table With Cinnamon and Roses

Walking around the tasting tent at the Food Network NYC Food and Wine Festival, I came across a fabulous decorating idea - it's perfect for Fall or the holidays - that I plan to re-create in a tablescape. You can to, here's how to:

Start by covering the table with a simple cloth. Arrange a thin layer of gauzy fabric over the tablecloth.
Sprinkle the table with rose petals in a color that matches the party's theme. Place the cinnamon sticks around the rose petals.

This is an inspiring idea that can translate into many different table decorations. You could wrap twine around cloth napkins and place a cinnamon stick inside each one. Or make placecard holders by cutting a slit into the side of the cinnamon and sliding a piece of labeled cardstock inside. What do you think? Have you ever used cinnamon sticks as party decor?
