A couple of weekends ago, for FabSugar's technicolor luau, I made a batch of Pineapple Pimm's Cup. Created by Duggan McDonnell of Cantina, this punch recipe consisted of pineapple vodka, Pimm's No. 1, ginger beer, ginger syrup, and fresh-squeezed lemon and lime juice.

Although Pimms wasn't created until 1840, I'm planning on serving the classic, quintessentially British Pimms No. 1 Cup Cocktail for my Pride & Prejudice — which is set in the 1812 — book party. Pimms Cup was originally a tonic of gin and a mixture of secret herbs developed to aid digestion.

If you're a fan of Beefeater, you should definitely get your hands on the brand's latest release, Beefeater 24. The artisan gin, that's made in London, features 12 specially selected botanicals, including a rare Japanese tea and Chinese green tea. The spirit is brewed for 24 hours, hence the name.

Now that Party's cleared up the mystery around one foreign spirit, Pimm's, I'm going to attempt to demystify another mixer — orange flower water.
A delicate flavoring used in desserts, drinks, and other dishes, orange flower water is a natural extract made from distilling orange blossoms from bitter orange or Seville orange trees. Sometimes known as orange blossom water, it has a delicate yet powerful, jasmine-like scent.

I am always tempted by cocktails with cucumber in them but often disappointed. Aside from the classically refreshing Pimm's Cup, the cucumber-based recipes I've tried have either been too sweet, not sweet enough, or way too much trouble.
The Gordon's Cup, however, made me giddy, and it wasn't just the 1/4 cup of gin.

If you have access to a courtyard, patio, or garden, host your book party there. The book is the focus of the occasion so a clean, polished, elegant look is ideal (unless your book is tough and gritty). For Pride & Prejudice I used a sunset for color inspiration with a gold, pale blue, and white palate.
