At a dinner party over the weekend, I tried Cahill Porter Cheese — an Irish cheddar cheese marbled with malty, bittersweet porter beer. Strangely enough, the mild taste of the cheddar cheese perfectly complements the caramel, chocolatey flavor of the beer. Some guests did not enjoy it, but I can't stop thinking about how it would make a unique, tasty grilled cheese sandwich.

While other airlines are cutting back on in-flight services, last Friday, Virgin America added a new alcohol to its menu. Absinthe, the once illegal "hallucinogenic" spirit, is now available on all flights. The strong green liquor can be enjoyed on the rocks or mixed into the Mile-High Cocktail, a "tormenting and satisfying blend of Le Tourment Vert Absinthe, sprite, and lemons shaken and served over ice."

As far as controversy goes, one would have thought Pepsi's Suicidal Calorie ads would be hard to top, but a new campaign from Burger King is generating just as much buzz. On a new website, Whoppervirgins.com, Burger King is showing footage of Thai villagers and Transylvanian farmers taking their first bite ever of a hamburger. The film, which was made by Stacy Peralta, the director of acclaimed documentaries like Riding Giants, is being dubbed the world's "purest taste test."
