For a low-budget weeknight meal, opt for leftover pork shoulder, an inexpensive and forgiving cut of meat.
Pork shoulder, while very recession-friendly, typically cooks for hours, but this recipe for tender, marbleized Mexican-style carnitas can be made within an hour and a half.

At a recent outdoor festival, a friend of mine ordered this sandwich, called the "Gutbuster," from a barbecue stand. The soft bun was piled with three kinds of meat — beef brisket, pulled pork, and beer-braised bratwurst — and topped with spicy sauce. Though it looks kinda gross, I have to admit that it was full of delicious flavor.

Every couple of months, I get a huge craving for shredded pork. The kind of slow-cooked, moist, melt in your mouth, scrumptious pork that is stuffed into carnitas and pulled-pork sandwiches. The other day I experienced one of these exact cravings when I saw a recipe for TeamSugar member Twinkle's super easy BBQ pork.

If you are searching for something to serve a crowd on Super Bowl Sunday, think about making pulled pork sandwiches. Super-moist, melt-in-your-mouth pork piled high on a soft bun is both filling and celebratory. The pork is slow cooked and best made in advance, giving you plenty of time to enjoy company and the game.

If you followed Brian's pulled pork recipe yesterday, you probably (unless you pigged out like I probably would've done) have some leftovers for today. If that's the case, then take a tip from our very own Sugar Network geeks and put yourself together a delicious pulled pork burrito. This burrito is simple to put together - take a large flour tortilla, fill it with pulled pork and beans (I forgot to ask which kind the geeks used), cilantro and cheese - then top it with cheese and heat it up in the microwave (or oven) until everything is nice and warm and the cheese on top is melted.

For tonight's Sunday Dinner, I thought I would treat you guys to Brian's excellent pulled pork sandwiches. He followed a recipe from award-winning chef Michael Mina and let me just tell you, when he heated up some leftovers the next day, the entire office was drooling. It's definitely a Sunday dinner since it needs to marinate for 3 hours, but the time spent will definitely be worth it.

Alright, tell me how come no one thought of this before: A WATERPROOF cookbook.
Talk about genius!
Advertised as "sauce-proof, waterproof and splatter-proof," award-winning cookbook author and chef, Charlie Palmer's latest book, Charlie Palmer's Practical Guide to the New American Kitchen, is the fanciest addition to my library.

Unlike my past 'Wich of the Week recipes, this sandwich depends not on a perfect blend of flavors or expert construction, but on a single, superb ingredient served without flourish. In this case, it's pulled pork, and not just any pulled pork — this recipe comes from renowned chef Michael Mina, and it's mouth-wateringly good.
The pork is incredibly easy to make: You just coat a pork shoulder with Mina's special rub and slow-cook it for about five hours.

Though it's hard to beat Michael Mina's recipe for pulled pork sandwiches, "pulled" isn't the only way to do pork. Another popular variation in North Carolina (or in this case, at Sandra Dee's Barbeque in Sacramento, CA) is chopped pork, wherein slow-cooked meat is cut into bite-size chunks and dressed in a sweet, vinegar-based sauce.Sandra Dee's serves barbecued pork loin on a French roll, with a side of sauce to drizzle or pour to your heart's content. The restaurant also grills the bread, which is a nice touch, though I'd also add some slaw on top.
