Even though it's not my favorite holiday, there are several reasons I look forward to Halloween, and one of them is candy corn. I can find only less-than-positive words to describe the waxy, cloyingly sweet, unnaturally butterscotch-y neon-covered morsels, yet once I get started, I can't stop eating them. How do you feel about the seasonal confection?

It wouldn't be Spring without seasonal hallmarks such as pastel-colored jelly beans and Cadbury Creme Eggs — and, of course, Peeps. Fans of America's favorite marshmallow delight may want to pick up Peeps: Recipes and Crafts to Make With Your Favorite Marshmallow Treat.
DIY projects range from cute and edible (s'more Peeps, Peeps meringue tartlets) to far-fetched (Peeps checkers, Peeps Christmas wreath).

With tomorrow being Halloween, we've unofficially opened the Pandora's Box that is Fall sweets season. That's why the Field Guide to Candy ($16) couldn't have come at a better time. Pastry chef Anita Chu, who authored the Field Guide to Cookies, has come out with a second book, which promises to teach you "how to identify and make virtually every candy imaginable."

Happy National Candy Corn Day! This Halloween, grocery aisles have been stocked with two distinct types of my favorite seasonal candy: the traditional version made by Brach's, as well as a newer Hershey's rendition.
Last year, when I first tried the Hershey's candy corn, I thought it had a cloying aftertaste, and despite giving them a second chance, I still didn't care for them.

Earlier this week, PartySugar taught me a lot about Cadbury Creme Eggs, a classic Easter confection. But I found out there was a whole lot more to chocolate eggs when I toured the See's Candies factory last month and saw how its seasonal specialties are made, from beginning to end. To join me on my eggcellent adventure, keep reading.

Unlike Summer produce that you can toss into a salad, Winter veggies often require roasting, which has the added benefit of warming up your house. This week, I took another page from Nancy Silverton's Sandwich Book to prepare roasted radicchio sandwiches with a seasonal side of Brussels sprouts.Though I'm not usually partial to open-faced sandwiches, this Italian-inspired recipe won me over with a surprising combination of ingredients and comforting, wintry flavors. The punchy gorgonzola and slightly bitter radicchio get a sweet assist from honey and candied walnuts.
