Audrina Patridge Promotes the Carl's Jr. "Bikini Burger"

The completed commercial was released yesterday. The ad is for the limited edition Teriyaki Burger and pays tribute to Patridge's amazing physique. She claims that she has to give up everything to have such a great bikini bod, but the one thing she can't live without is of course, the Teriyaki Burger with grilled pineapple. While I certainly don't believe that Patridge consumes burgers at the beach on a regular basis, I think she looks sexy and find the ad far less offensive than Paris Hilton's disgustingly seductive commercial. Check it out below and let me know what you think. Is it great or gross?

Audrina Patridge Is New Carl's Jr. Spokesperson

Turns out you don't have to wait for the next season of The Hills to catch more of Audrina Patridge: later this month, she'll be following fellow temptress Padma Lakshmi's lead and starring in a new commercial for Carl's Jr. promoting the chain's Teriyaki Six Dollar Burger.

The Hills regular filmed on location in Malibu, donning a barely there, gold lamé bikini and noshing on burgers while laying on the beach. "It was my first experience shooting a spot with food, and . . . I was literally salivating looking at all the rows and rows of perfect burgers waiting for me," she said.

I'm rather skeptical about burgers being Audrina's "one indulgence." I'll be curious to see if her ad, which airs on June 24 - the same day the burger launches - will be as steamy as Paris Hilton's or Padma's previous Carl's Jr. commercials.
Of the ad, Padma told People that it's "a beautiful love song to food. I think eating in itself is the act of great sensuality, so all you have to do is point the camera in the right direction." However, after watching a video of it, I'm not so sure if the words "beautiful" and "love song" are the best descriptors.

Check out the advertisement below and let me know what you think. Do you consider it sexy or trashy?

Domino's Baked Sandwiches Burn Subway

Advertising campaigns in which one company slams a competitor are nothing new: There's the coffee war between Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts, and the burger battle of McDonald's versus Burger King. The latest companies to publicly duke it out? Domino's Pizza and Subway. According to a taste test conducted and promoted by Domino's, consumers prefer their baked sandwiches over Subway's sandwiches by a two-to-one ratio. Subway quickly responded to the claims by sending Domino's a letter telling the pizza chain to stop airing the commercials. Then last week on national television, Domino's president David Brandon burned the letter. Subway has yet to comment on Domino's aggressive advertisement, and a lawsuit is likely.

After tasting Domino's baked sandwiches, I find it hard to believe they could beat out Subway's sandwiches in a blind taste test. I also think the behavior in the video is childish and immature. Burning a letter? It doesn't necessarily make me want to run to the nearest Domino's for a sandwich. Watch the video below and tell me what you think. Whose sandwiches do you prefer?

Saucy PETA Campaign Links Vegetarianism to Virility

Animal-rights organization PETA is known for its head-turning campaigns, and its latest one is no different. PETA Asia Pacific's newest ads feature model-actress Alicia Mayer in a lingerie set holding a suggestive banana, provoking, "Eating meat got you down? Get it up! Go vegetarian." PETA states:

A man who stuffs his belly full of dead pig flesh in the kitchen might end up delivering dead wood in the bedroom. High cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, prostate cancer and inflammation, and hormonal imbalances cause the vast majority of all cases of impotence. The good news is that medical science has proved that all of these conditions can be virtually eliminated with a low-fat vegan diet.

My guess is that this campaign is part of an effort by PETA to turn more guys into vegetarians. After all, masculinity has long been associated with eating meat. While I find the ad entertaining, I'm not sure it will be enough to convert insecure men. Do you find the tagline amusing or offensive? And could you see it converting more males into vegetarians?

Source

Did This Snickers Commercial Go Too Far?

For the second time in two years, best-selling candybar, Snickers, has found itself in the middle of a controversy surrounding their latest ad campaign. Candy company Mars has yanked the ad from UK airwaves, where it received backlash from gay-rights activists for being homophobic. The commercial featured surly '80s icon, Mr. T, berating a speed-walking man, calling him "a disgrace to the man race." The tagline? "Get some nuts."

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation criticized Mars and its ad agency for perpetuating stereotypes of gay men. Mars issued a statement last night, saying that the commercial was intended to be funny, not offensive.

While I can see how the ad was meant to be funny, it might have taken things too far. After watching the spot below, let me know what you think. Do you feel the ad is cruel and insensitive, or was the whole situation blown out of proportion?

Match the Ice Cream Advertisement to Its Year of Publication

It appeared in the New York Gazette and publicized the gloriousness that is ice cream. To commemorate the occasion I've found a bunch of old ice cream advertisements. Can you guess what year they were published?

Pay Attention and You Won't End Up Like This Woman

Our friends at the Food Section tipped us off to the fact that there's been a rise in the number of home insurance claims involving kitchen accidents. According to the research done by Esure - an online home insurance provider - 14 percent of the accidents involved people trying new recipes. With fast chopping, deep frying and skewering being the most common causes. However, new recipes are not the only cause of kitchen accidents, and often something as mundane as a bottle of oil can cause great harm.

As a reminder to take it easy and pay more attention, I dug up this commercial from South African cellular company Cell C. In less than one minute a woman enters her kitchen, hits her head on a cupboard, slips and falls in some oil, catches her shirt on fire and electrocutes herself with the toaster. While it's extreme and over-the-top, it makes you think twice about kitchen safety. To check out the commercial for yourself just read more.

Can You Spot the Hidden Picture?

Subliminal messages in advertising are nothing new. For years there's been talk of images embedded inside of others that cause you to crave the product, or associate the product with other things. When advertisers use this technique - not that they'd ever admit to it - it's usually hidden. It's not often that an advertiser asks you to figure out their message. Apparently the folks at KFC are trying to change that. Right now they're actually running an ad where they ask you to find the hidden image. If you can do it, then they'll actually give you a free sandwich. All you have to do is find the image, be one of the first 1,000 people to fill in the form, say what you saw, and voila free Snacker coupon.

So tell me, did you find the image? It's in there, do you see it?
If not, I'll help you out. Learn what the image is when you read more.

It's a dollar bill, do you see it? Now you can try and get your free coupon!

Foodie Flashback: Learn How to Style a Burger

I was <strike>wasting my time on</strike> checking out YouTube when I came across this video clip from Buy Me That! an old 1980s special that taught kids the tricks in advertising. In this particular clip a "makeup artist for food" - these days they would be known as a food stylist - teaches everyone how to make burgers look tasty and delicious. The key is to cook them for only 20 seconds on each side, and to mark them with skewers. Oh and if it's too tiny, just rip it and spread it out, no one will know. To check out the video and see if you know all the tricks, just read more.
