Before you can be famous, you need to be almost famous. The folks at S.Pellegrino understand this concept and are giving more than 60 culinary students the opportunity to claim their fame. In the 6th Annual S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Competition, students work their way to the finals by competing in regional contests.

Even for those of us who don't live in New York, it's hard to ignore the accolades of Balthazar, Keith McNally's world-famous SoHo brasserie that's been perennially packed since it opened over a decade ago.
New Yorkers may think it's still hard to book a rez, but those of us on the West Coast really can't snag a seat for brunch. That's why I was psyched to get my hands on a copy of The Balthazar Cookbook ($24.75).

I first saw the flip-flop coasters at my sister's friend's house. I thought she bought them specifically for the beach party, and was horrified to learn that they were in fact her everyday coasters. I quickly forgot about the crazy coasters, but was reminded when I saw the tennis shoes in the Yum Market on TeamSugar!

I ran across these glasses when I was browsing for Yum Market Finds, they were found by reader almost famous. She points out that women love creative things and that although these wouldn't be used on a daily basis, whipping them out for that special someone during an intimate dinner could be a very inticing message. I personally hate these glasses, I think they are tacky and totally not worth the $90 price tag.

Today is one of my favorite great literary author's birthday: William Shakespeare actually was born and died on the same day, April 23. I've read almost all of his works but it wasn't until today that I surprisingly realized how often his lines reference food! The most famous of course, is when the witches in Macbeth make a bubbling soup but there are tons of quotes about apples, barley, cheese, duck, eggs, leeks, veal, mushrooms, and much more.

You know I am a fan of specialty cocktails served in specialty glasses. Like the right outfit for a certain occasion, the right glass is necessary for a certain drink. Not just for aesthetic appeal, but because the drink actually tastes different, better.

During the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, many celebrity chefs were on hand to chat with fans while signing copies of their books. On hand were the usuals (like Rachael and Giada), however there was one particular Food Network bashing chef on hand as well. Yep that's right, our favorite celebrity chef bad-boy, Anthony Bourdain, was there too.

Just as we fill our closets with shoes and handbags for each and every occasion we should fill our cabinets with the perfect glasses for each and every drink. Every time I show up with a new box of glasses it drives my father a little more crazy. After seeing Marie Antoinette I ran out in search of fabulous dainty little champagne glasses.

Although I am not lucky enough to have personally eaten at Balthazar (one of New York City's hottest restaurants), I am lucky enough to have received the gorgeous cookbook of the same name. The Balthazar Cookbook is a perfectly bound simple red book with 100 luscious color pictures and 40 b&w. In fact, the book is so gorgeous you will almost want to keep it out of the kitchen in fear that it will be ruined.
