I'm a big fan of bars, and not just for drinking. If I'm dining alone or on a date, I love to eat at a restaurant's bar. It's cozy and intimate, and I enjoy being able to place my entire meal order with the bartender.

A few Fridays ago, I attended the opening of a new club. The party was great; there was no line to get in, our names were actually on the list, it wasn't overcrowded, and the music was perfect! What put me in a bad mood very quickly was the wait to get a drink.

My friend Antonio is the best bartender I know. He's always looking for the latest, greatest addition to his home bar. Both Antonio, and your bartending boy, are sure to love any of these gifts.

While I was on an adventure in vegetarianism recently, I had a discussion with the intelligent and dashing Mr. I'minlikewithyou about sitting at the bar in restaurants rather than at a table. I love sitting at the bar because it's much more intimate sitting shoulder to shoulder than seated with a table in between you. I like having the bartender nearby, being able to people watch, and the high chairs/stools.

Sure you can rush to the refrigerator's automatic ice maker or open the freezer and grab a tray of cubes, but come on, aren't ice buckets the height of chic when it comes to cocktailology? The supreme entertainer will have an ice bucket ready and waiting, with tongs nearby whenever guests need a refill. The tongs are as important as the ice bucket, one can not exist without the other.

Every week YumSugar highlights an essential tool for the ultimate kitchen. People are always asking her what her favorite kitchen tool is and in a response to this perpetual question, she is creating a list of kitchen must-haves and special splurges (attention brides: use this as a checklist when creating your registry!). Lately I've noticed that more and more people are asking me about what the perfect hostess should have in her bar.

Andrew is a friend of mine who lives in New York City. He is an incredible artist and man about town. When he's not building sets or making videos, he spends the majority of his time partying (you can imagine what it must be like when we get together: PartyAndrew and PartySugar...).

Recently I read an interesting article in 7x7 magazine about the pleasures of dive bars. It got me thinking about dive-bar food. You don't have to admit that you frequent dive bars, but 'fess up: What is your favorite dive bar snack?

In an attempt to help you become the ultimate hostess, I have created the Ultimate Bar. Each week I'll feature an essential item for the ideal at home bar. You may not know what a bar measure is (I didn't until my friend Sonia gave me one as a hostess gift), but once you do, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
