Are Heinz Baked Beanz too much of a mouthful?

Citing difficult pronunciation, Heinz will be dropping the word "baked" from the Heinz Baked Beanz label and changing the official title to Heinz Beanz, the Telegraph reports. Four years ago, Heinz changed the "s" of beans to "z" to modernize the brand. Now the company explained why the popular British shelf item, which will retain its distinctive teal tin, is ready for another name change:

Heinz Beanz have been powering the nation for over a hundred years, and to say thank you to our loyal fans, we have given this iconic product a 21st century makeover.

My brother has recently decided to change his diet. Instead of eating tons of fast food, he wants to consume more vegetables. I suggested he eat one hearty and filling salad a day. This two bean salad is perfect for him because it's chock full of flavorful vegetables. Yesterday, over 80 chefs gathered together to make a giant vat of Gallo Pinto. The dish, which is considered to be the national dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, is a mix of beans and rice fried together with spices. The reason for the giant vat? Try the first Gallo Pinto National Festival in San José, Costa Rica. To celebrate the event, they created enough gallo pinto — over 4,400 pounds of black beans and 4,000 pounds of rice — to feed 30,000 people. The main reason for the quantity was to defeat Nicaragua's record of serving up 20,000 people the year before!

When I was younger I loved to order Mexican pizzas from Taco Bell. Now that I'm older and steer clear of fast-food joints, I like to make a similar tortilla pie in the comforts of my kitchen. This is a meatless version that features two types of beans: pinto and black. Tortillas are layered with salsa, beans, cheese, and cilantro. The entire thing is baked in the oven until crisp. Beans, beans, good for the heart . . . Ahh yes they are, because they're great sources of protein and fiber. Protein gives us energy, is necessary to build healthy hair and nails, it's an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood, and your body also uses protein to make hormones. Fiber is necessary to keep us regular, plus it helps to lower cholesterol, and prevent certain types of cancer.

Since beans contain both fiber and protein, you should try to eat them as often as you can. If your body isn't used to eating beans, sitting down for a big bowl of chili isn't necessarily going to do your belly any good. You could end up feeling bloated and uncomfortable, and swear off beans for good.

Instead of chowing down on an entire meal of beans, add them to the foods you already eat. Sprinkle some chickpeas and kidney beans on your salad, drop some black or cannellini beans into your soup or casserole recipes, add some black eyed peas to your pasta sauce. Get creative. I guarantee that the extra protein and fiber will have you feeling amazing.

Fit's Tips: Since you aren't going to be using a whole can of beans, store the leftovers in a plastic container in the fridge so they'll be easily accessible when you want to add a few spoonfuls to your next meal.
