Rules of the House Glasses: Love It or Hate It?

Although I had mixed feelings about the beer bottle goblets, I love these rules of the house pint glasses. They are perfect for Super Bowl Sunday! Each glass states a different rule like no guest shall intercept another guest's seat and extra points for getting your own refills. I understand they aren't for everyone, but in the right place at the right time these glasses are fabulously fun! What do you think?

Hopside Down Glasses: Love It or Hate It?

I can't lie, I love glassware. I enjoy everything from Moroccan tea glasses to oversize pint glasses to party glasses. However, when I saw these hopside down beer glasses, I immediately knew they would never become a part of my elaborate collection. The upside down bottle makes me think of a cow's udder that's ready to be milked! If you're a fan of kitschy kitchenware you'll probably get a kick out of them, but I do not. How about you?

Party Foul: Serving Drinks in Incorrect Glasses

I recently attended a very crowded party where the caterers ran out of clean serving glasses. When I went to order a second beer, the bartender - to my dismay - poured it into a champagne flute. I looked around the event and noticed chicly dressed PYTs sipping champagne from brandy snifters and white wine from whiskey tumblers!

I love fun glasses as much as the next party gal, but because wine glasses actually enhance and affect the flavor of wine, wine should be served in appropriate glassware. I think the staff should have either washed more glasses or served beer in water glasses and wine in small table glasses.

What do you think? Is it a party no-no to pour drinks into incorrect glassware?

The Chillster: Love It or Hate It?

I'm all for doing my part to end global warming, but I only recently realized that I could do something to help end beer warming. After all, nothing tastes worst than the tepid taste of a lukewarm beer. Luckily someone has created the Chillster, a freezable glass that keeps a drink ice cold without any ice. The pint sized, scientifically designed vessel is made from shatterproof plastic and unlike other similar glasses, this one keeps the drink cold without making hands chilly. It's a great concept, but I'm just not going to stock up on Chillster glasses. What do you think about it?

No specialty cocktail is needed at an Okotberfest celebration, the German festival is all about one thing - beer. Instead invite friends to partake in a beer tasting! There are several different ways to host a beer tasting. You can get the same kinds of beers, say German pilsners, all made by different breweries. You could select one brewery, purchase all the varieties of beer they make, and serve those. Or you can just buy a bunch of beers from various styles and regions. Head to Bevmo, Trader Joe's, or other local shop that sells a wide assortment of beers and purchase six packs or larger bottles for the tasting. To get more beer-tasting tips read more.

When selecting beers, think about the likes and dislikes of your guests. If the majority of people enjoy lighter style beers, get those. On the other hand, if your guests are adventurous drinkers, consider picking up hoppier/darker ales.
Handle the beer carefully and be sure to properly chill it.
Like wine, beer requires appropriate glasses for each type. However, for the sake of the tasting, simply serve the beer in standard glasses. Avoid using plastic or paper cups.
Drink slowly and take note of the beer's color, aroma, and head. Discuss how it tastes.
Each pour should be about 3-4 ounces.
Host the tasting before dinner and have extra bottles on hand to enjoy while consuming the meal.
