"Would you like to see the beer list?" may sound like a silly question, until you realize how serious some restaurants are taking their beer selections these days. I recently had dinner at a restaurant in San Francisco called The Monk's Kettle, which actually suggests beer pairings alongside its entrees.

This morning, the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) announced the finalists for its 2010 cookbook awards. Among the finalists? Notable restaurant chefs Thomas Keller, John Besh, Marcus Samuelsson, and Michael Psilakis, as well as former Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl.

December is a time for edible gifts, festive lights, and fabulous parties. Since I never know who may stop by my apartment on their way home from Christmas shopping or before a spirited Saturday on the town, I'm always party ready. Not only does that mean keeping my house presentably clean, but I also have the previsions on hand to throw together a quick snackable spread.

The other day I went to Tommy's Joynt, a San Francisco institution, for the first time. The establishment serves up hearty food (it was featured on Triple D) and has an extensive list of beers from all over the world. My sister ordered an amber ale, but I wanted a light beer and asked the bartender for an exotic recommendation.

Tonight, surprise your loved ones with a homemade version of a ballpark classic, sausage and pepper sandwiches. No grill is necessary, all you need is an oven.
The veggies and sausages are roasted while the bread gets toasty and the cheese melts.

This weekend, the T-minus one week countdown to Halloween begins. If you aren't too busy planning your fright night agenda and costume, take the time to hit up some of this month's biggest events, like Chicago's Champagne fête or the annual Kohler Food & Wine Experience. As the weather gets rainier, I'd personally love to spend a sun-spilled weekend eating my way through Scottsdale.

Super Bowl Sunday is just a few days away and slowly but surely I'm putting together my blowout bash. In order for me not to get overwhelmed when planning a party, I like to do it in little increments. The invitations one day, the menu the next, and so on and so forth until the entire fete is prepared.

Who can say no to the classic combination of meat and potatoes? To get your weekend started, serve your family this hearty and satisfying meal. Although the ingredient list calls for Italian sausage, bratwurst, andouille, or any other kind of sausage would work well.
