Jennifer Garner dressed up last night for the AFI Fest premiere of Butter at LA's Grauman's Chinese Theatre. She was decked out in a silk playsuit for the red carpet event while her costar Olivia Wilde went with a lacy peach dress. We snagged a moment with Jennifer on her way inside, and she revealed that daughters Violet and Seraphina don't watch many of her movies. Jen said they barely have the attention span to check out Ariel in The Little Mermaid, but she hopes they'll enjoy the upcoming The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

It was Jennifer's second fancy evening of the weekend, after she met up with her Arthur buddy Russell Brand Saturday for the Motion Picture and Television Fund's Reel Stories, Real Lives event. Olivia didn't join Jen there, instead she went to LACMA's Art + Film gala. The socializing took a toll on Olivia, but her thoughts were really with those across the country running the New York marathon. She tweeted yesterday, "In honor of the NYC marathoners I'm going to eat carbs and Gatorade all day long. I'm also doing a lot of mental calf stretching. Not easy."

Jennifer Garner is making the most of her time in Toronto, and last night was all about her new film Butter, which had its big TIFF premiere. Pregnant Garner arrived in Canada on Monday, and she headed to The Weinstein Company's soiree that evening before joining up with her costars for a full Tuesday of press. Jennifer, Ashley Greene, Olivia Wilde, Alicia Silverstone, and their young castmate Yara Shahidi mingled at a cocktail party ahead of their red carpet premiere. As for an afterparty, the ladies hit up the InStyle/HFPA bash late night. Butter debuted to mixed reviews, so it's reportedly undergoing some editing before it hits theaters. The movie is still making headlines, though, since Harvey Weinstein formally invited Michele Bachmann to the Iowa premiere of the satirical comedy, which takes unsubtle jabs at the Tea Party movement.

Tonight, Jen and Olivia will hit the red carpet with their costars at Butter's first premiere. However, Hugh Jackman will likely miss out on the fun while he promotes Real Steel on the other side of the globe. It was just last year that Jen was on hand to join her husband, Ben Affleck, at The Town's TIFF debut, and since then they've gone on to tackle new projects and share the news about their third child.

Herb butter, or compound butter as it's sometimes called, is a great technique to have in your Summer cooking arsenal. Actually, herb butters are so awesome that I use them year round! But in the warm months, there's a plethora of fresh herbs to choose from - parsley, basil, oregano, etc.

The method is easy: you combine a bunch of chopped herbs and seasonings with room-temperature butter. Use the butter immediately or roll it up in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Once you've made the butter, there are countless ways to use it.

Need Room Temperature Butter Fast? Here's What You Do!

We've all been there: recipe in hand, apron on, ready to make a delicious layer cake (or cookies, tart, etc.) only to realize the butter isn't at room temperature! You could put the butter in the microwave, but there's a chance that it will melt completely. Since the texture of butter affects the finished baked good, it's important to get it to a room temperature-like status. The solution? Grate the butter. I've done this countless times and it always works. Grate the cold butter on the large side of a box grater (it may get messy), then use immediately.

I love getting questions from readers, especially when they pertain to sandwich history. This one comes from loyal reader BettyPuff:

"Dear sandwich lady, Can you tell me what the origins of putting butter on a ham sandwich are? I always wonder about the butter."

This is a tough one, since there isn't one definitive reason that almost all early American and British sandwiches feature butter. But butter is undeniably the condiment of choice in 19th century sandwich recipes, such as Eliza Leslie's ham sandwich from 1836.
