New Commercial is Full of Lovely Stuff

Before you ask why there's a picture of a car on YumSugar, you better take a closer look.

For a new 60-second commercial spot, car company Skoda hired a team of bakers, model makers and home economists to create a cake version of their new Fabia. The commercial, which reportedly cost around a million dollars to make, features the team baking the car cake from scratch. They used 180 eggs, 100kg of flour, 100kg of caster sugar, 30kg of almonds, 65kg of dried fruit, 180kg of orange sugar paste, 12.5kg of jam, a huge vat of chocolate and a whole lot of other delicious fixings. The car took 4 days to complete, and is incredibly detailed, down to the golden syrup "motor oil" and giant gelatin lights.

Cupcake Car: Love It or Hate It?

Recently Neiman Marcus released its annual Christmas book, and the Internet food world was abuzz because of one item: the cupcake car.

We got another look at these crazy cars, which are $25,000 each, a couple of days ago when Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb drove them around on the Today Show.

I think they are incredibly absurd and wonder who would ever buy one. How do you feel about the customizable - you pick the flavor! - cupcake car?

BellaSugar recently rented a cute Smart Fortwo car - be sure to check out her adventures. Hearing about the car's tiny size made me think of the scene in that old Mentos commercial. You know, the one where the girl's teeny tiny car gets wedged into a parking spot and she needs four burly dudes to come help her out? Well it's been running through my brain all week, and I think the only way to remove it is to share it with all of you. After all "fresh goes better" with friends, no?

Happy Hour: Domino's Side Car

In my early twenties, I fell in love with a drink called the Side Car. It was the perfect mix of brandy and orange liqueur, and was wonderfully tasty. However there was one small problem, every bartender I ordered from seemed to have their own version of the drink. Some contained whiskey, while others contained cognac; it was never the same thing twice. After a while I couldn't handle the inconsistency and stopped ordering it altogether. Domino's Side Car
From Domino magazine

1 1/2 oz brandy or cognac
1 oz Cointreau or Triple Sec
2 tbsp lemon juice
Lemon wedge or twist

Wet the rim of a martini glass and dip it in sugar.
Combine the brandy, Cointreau and lemon juice with ice in a cocktail shaker.
Strain into glass. Garnish with lemon.

An Exhausting Way to Cook a Burger

Would you like a nice charbroiled burger? Oh wait, did I say charbroiled, I meant Car-broiled. That's right, I said car.

A group of inventors have created the Exhaust Burger that allows you to drive and cook burgers at the same time. The exhaust goes through the top of the contraption - don't worry, the exhaust doesn't actually touch the burger - and heats the metal. The metal then cooks the burger, sort of like a George Foreman grill, only there's nowhere for the grease to go. The product is still in the concept phase, but I can see where it could be helpful - no extra fuel or energy needed - however, there's something about it that just seems wrong. Wouldn't it just be a greasy mess? Yet, having said that, you all know I'd be the first in line to see what it tastes like!

Oh and does this remind anyone else of Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt contraption that allows him to cook stew while riding his motorcycle?

Guess How Many Bags and Win Free Chips For a Year

KFC Closing Stores For a Good Cause

Is KFC trying to make amends for the Double Down, its infamous sandwich made with chicken patties instead of bread? The chicken chain is taking a break from inventing indulgent new foods to fight hunger, starting next Tuesday. Over the next few weeks, KFC will temporarily close more than 15,000 locations during the lunch rush and convert them into "World Hunger Relief Kitchens."

The kitchens will serve free grilled chicken meals to needy families while also raising awareness with charitable food drives and car washes at the shuttered stores. Fighting hunger is a pet cause of parent company Yum Brands, which launched a World Hunger Relief fund in 2007. Though there is some irony to KFC giving away free grilled chicken while it's being sued for grilled chicken, I can definitely get behind this good cause.

For Papa John's, Camaro Search Ends on a Sour Note

This Summer's turned out to be quite the roller coaster ride for Papa John's founder John Schnatter. First, he and the pizza chain held a contest to locate his 1971 Camaro, the car he sold to finance his first pizza joint 25 years ago.

In what seemed like a fairy tale, Schnatter reunited with his long lost Camaro in Flatwoods, KY. But here's where the story turns sour: Papa John's is now suing one Kentucky couple, Phillip and Billie Slone, who believe they deserve the $250,000 search prize.According to the Slones, they first alerted Papa John's to the vehicle's whereabouts. Papa John's has fired back, accusing the Slones of fraud. The chain claims that after it informed Billie Slone that she didn't qualify for the prize without the vehicle's title, she contacted the titleholder, Jeff Robinson, and told him she knew a man who would pay for his Camaro.

Although Papa John's offered the Slones $25,000 for the role they played in linking Robinson to the pizza chain, Billie Slone has accused the company of amending winning guidelines after the contest was under way. I'm saddened to see a monetary prize spoil such a fun competition. Who is at fault: Papa John's or the Slones?

Papa John Reunited With 1971 Camaro

In what seems like a story made for television, John Schnatter, the chairman and former CEO of Papa John's, has found his long lost 1971 Camaro. In 1984, Schnatter sold the car and used the money from the sale to open the pizza joint.

Last June, he embarked on a 12-city tour in search of his former ride. He highly publicized the trip by chronicling it on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter and made special public appearances, like ringing the closing bell of the Nasdaq stock exchange, and throwing out the first pitch at a Dodgers game. After car blog Jalopnik joined in the search, a reader located the Camaro and notified the blog, who then got in touch with the pizza chain founder. Jeff Robinson from Flatwoods, KY, was able to produce the title to the car Schnatter sold 25 years ago.

In return for the car, Schnatter is rewarding Robinson with $250,000. Papa John's is so excited by the discovery that to celebrate, today they are giving away a free large, one-topping pizza to anyone who owns a Chevy Camaro. Are you surprised that Papa John found his old car?

World's Largest Cupcake Attempt Is a Sweet Success

Another one to add to the list of highly unconventional cupcakes: This 1,224-pound behemoth of a baked good, which just knocked out a recent record contender for the title of world's largest cupcake.

The prodigious pastry, which composed of triple vanilla cake batter and topped with pink frosting, was more than eight times the size of the previous record holder in girth. It stood 4 feet tall and spanned 11 feet around, and was created by Manchester, NH-based GourmetGiftBaskets.com. It required 800 eggs, 200 pounds each of sugar and flour, five days of preparation, and 12 hours of baking time.
Slices of the cupcake were served over the weekend at the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise Classic Car Show in Detroit, MI, in exchange for donations to breast cancer foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Even though the cupcake contained an estimated 2 million calories, I wouldn't have been able to pass up this once-in-a-lifetime indulgence.
