A friend of mine, who fits the classification of hipster to a T, also happens to love all things gourmet. Initially, I was at a loss for what to get her, but I quickly discovered that there's an array of niche gift items that converge at the juncture of food, music, and cutting-edge cool. Case in point: I have to get her this book about underground dining, and because she loves to push the envelope, I know she'll flip for this shopping bag.

It's time for me to invest in some new coasters. The Lipstick Jungle cardboard coasters — from the book reading I went to years ago! — that I currently own are warped and bending.

I saw these Chocolate Coasters ($12.95) and knew they'd be perfect for chocolate month. They come in packs of four and look exactly like hunks of brown or white chocolate. I think they might make a good gift for a super-chocoholic, but I'm not sure I'd want to use them on my coffee table.

I was recently inspired while dining with my parents at Lulu. When the waiter brought us our drinks, he placed them on colored cardstock coasters. The coasters were simple blue circles and I suddenly envisioned them as a part of the look for my next party!

My friend Antonio is the best bartender I know. He's always looking for the latest, greatest addition to his home bar. Both Antonio, and your bartending boy, are sure to love any of these gifts.

I first saw the flip-flop coasters at my sister's friend's house. I thought she bought them specifically for the beach party, and was horrified to learn that they were in fact her everyday coasters. I quickly forgot about the crazy coasters, but was reminded when I saw the tennis shoes in the Yum Market on TeamSugar!

One of my pet peeves is coffee rings on the table, they drive me absolutely crazy. That's why I love coasters (as long as you remember to use them, ahem, Jimmy, I'm talking to you). Well, it turns out that I'm not the only one who thinks coasters are fantastic.
