It'd be an understatement to say that here at YumSugar, we do a lot of cooking - and for new ideas and fresh inspiration, there's no better source than restaurants and cookbooks. At a time when close-to-the-source food has been making a comeback, there've been a dizzying number of books guiding the way when it came to making homemade food.

With so many new titles making waves this year, it was hard to choose our top picks, so for a little help, we turned to other respected cooks who'd know best: our readers! Without further delay, here are our favorite (and your favorite) books from the year.

More edible projects than complex recipes, SpongeBob's Kitchen Mission Cookbook ($12) introduces tots to cooking terms while indicating the recipes' difficulty levels so parents know when to involve their kids. Rovio to Release Angry Birds Cookbook

Just when you thought the Angry Birds spinoffs were tapped out, Rovio finds another way to extend its mobile gaming reach. Not only are there rumblings of an Angry Birds TV show, but now, there might also be an Angry Birds cookbook in the works. This family-focused cookbook will be stuffed with egg-based recipes, perfect for any time of day. No release date or pricing info has been released yet, but I'm all about eating breakfast for dinner so this will be just the thing for my kitchen.

IACP Announces Cookbook Award Winners

The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) are currently gathered in Austin, TX, for their annual weeklong conference. Last night, Dave Arnold, the director of technology for The French Culinary Institute and Chris Young, the co-author of Modernist Cuisine, hosted the 2011 Cookbook Awards Gala.
