Last Friday, YumSugar discovered a random strand of blue thread in her salad. It was disgustingly attached to a piece of feta cheese. We got to talking about gross things we've come across in restaurant food. Whether it's as simple as a piece of hair or as gag inducing as a rat, we've all had bad experiences with finding things in our food. Let's Dish: What Ingredients Do You Refuse To Eat?

Whether you're a picky eater or an adventurous one, everyone has certain items that they refuse to eat. Some things like mayonnaise, blue cheese, or cilantro are commonly hated, whereas things like chocolate or chicken are typically disliked by only a handful. Taste, texture, smell, color - whatever the reason - everyone has that one thing they avoid eating. So what ingredients do you refuse to eat?

Would You Drink a Nogasake?

Did anyone catch The Office on Thursday night (if you missed it, BuzzSugar has a great recap for you)?

In the episode Andy, Jim, Dwight and Michael head over to Benihana for a cheering-up lunch. While there Andy ordered (brace yourself for this one) a Nogasake! When I heard this, I nearly spit out my drink because (A) it's pretty offensive (B) it's hysterical and (C) my goodness that sounds disgusting!

But, if you want to try it at home (and if you do let me know about it), it's one part eggnog, three parts sake. Drink up!

Also, since I'm on the topic of disgusting drinks, what's the worst holiday drink you've ever had? Let us all know in the comments below!

Do You Bake With Shortening?

This morning, I set the record straight on the baking fat known as shortening. Although it's a nice vegan alternative to butter or lard, a number of you are disgusted with its trans fat content. I can relate to both perspectives - although I recently became enamored with the flaky texture it lends to pie crusts, like the one in traditional apple pie.

TV Dinners: The Office's Nogasake Revisited

As BuzzSugar pointed out, NBC reran The Office's holiday special last night. To relive the big laughs and good times, the hubby and I decided we would suck it up and do what YumSugar reader Kjell suggested. Yes that's right, we decided to brave it and actually try a Nogasake.

So we picked up some of Bud's eggnog (one of my favorite brands - super rich and creamy) and a small bottle of Gekkeikan sake. Then we went home, waited for The Office to begin, and made ourselves a drink. To learn how my experience was, read more

I started by pouring 1 1/2 oz of sake into a glass and then topping it off with 1/2 oz of eggnog. Disgustingly, the liquids separated just like oil and vinegar (with the eggnog sinking below the sake). So I grabbed a spoon, stirred until the liquids were one, counted to three and took a sip.

It was horrible. As in just wrong, like bad milk. It was as if the sake somehow instantly soured the eggnog (and no, the nog was not bad already). It didn't curdle it, just soured it. The two ingredients just did not want to mix. I seriously do not recommend this drink, not even as a joke to impress your friends. But if you must insist, I've included the recipe below.

Nonni's Makes It Rain Meatballs With New World Record

When I saw the trailer for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, I wondered: what could be better than living in an alternate universe where it rains meatballs? Well, I think I've found my answer.

It's a 222.5-pound meatball that emerged over the weekend, blowing all other past meatball records out of the water. The gargantuan ground beef spectacle, which was created by Matthew Mitnitsky of Nonni's Italian Eatery in Concord, NH, was confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records to be the (new) record holder of the world's largest meatball, beating out a recent 198.6-pound feat created on Jimmy Kimmel.

The best part? The now-famous meatball was broken down into manageable portions, then packaged and delivered to local shelters. What do you think? Delicious or disgusting?

Do You Enjoy Eating Meat Caveman-Style?

During the Sparks, NV, Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, I had a Flintstonian moment while eating an oversized beef rib. Although I enjoy biting into meat right off the bone (smoked turkey leg, I'm looking at you!), a co-worker told me should would have been disgusted by gnawing at any kind of bone, let alone a giant one. How about you?

Titanic Tomato Fight Takes Over Valencia, Spain

For many, corn boils and clambakes are the highlights of the season. But others look forward to very different Summer festivities - like the La Tomatina in Valencia, Spain. Yesterday, the town of Buñol, Spain (population: 9,000), held its annual world-famous tomato food fight. The event, which is on the last Wednesday in August, is an all-out escapade that involves more than 100 tons of overripe tomatoes, draws over 40,000 visitors from around the world, and spares absolutely no one.

It's part of a weeklong festival that includes music, parades, dancing, fireworks, and a massive paella cooking contest. The hourlong exchange, which takes place in Buñol's Plaza del Pueblo, dates back to the mid-1940s. Legend has it that the fight either began as a spat between local merchants, or when disgruntled citizens started throwing tomatoes at politicians. Après-argument, participants hose one another off and jump in the Buñol River, while fire trucks hose down the plaza.

This looks disgusting yet fun, so I'm adding it to my bucket list of things to do. Can you imagine how much tomato pulp the photographer must've been covered in?! Would you participate in La Tomatina?

Let's Dish: What Food Words Absolutely Disgust You?

Yesterday Yum and I got to talking about the word "tater." While I have nothing against potatoes, tater tots, or the pocket-stuffing scene from Napoleon Dynamite, I can't stand the word "tater." Something about it rubs me the wrong way. Same thing goes for the word yield. I'm not exactly sure what I dislike about it, but I prefer to say "makes" or "serves" instead of "yield" when describing the amount of food a recipe produces. Yes, hating certain food-related words is totally illogical, but I'm not alone - many of you abhor the word moist.

So throw logic to the wind and get it off your chest: what food words drive you crazy?

Do You Think KFC's Famous Bowls Are Disgusting?

Before comedian Patton Oswalt voiced Remy, the rat in Ratatouille, his biggest contribution to the food world was a shtick about KFC's Famous Bowls. In his routine, he would often refer to the bowls as a "failure pile in a sadness bowl." Although the bit of stand-up even found its way onto Late Night With Conan O'Brien, it turns out that it was all just for show; Oswalt had never actually tasted one of the famous bowls.

To make things right, The Onion's A.V. Club asked him to taste test one. I was expecting the article to become a, "What do you know? They're not that bad after all!" sort of an article, but it didn't. In the end Oswalt can now rightfully hate on the Famous Bowl. In fact he sums it all up into one delicate sentence, "It's goddamn horrible, this Famous Bowl."

So what do you think? Do you agree with him - you should read the whole piece it's pretty fun - or do you think he's full of it?
