Let's Dish: What Family Recipe Did You Love to Eat as a Kid?

Growing up, there were a few dishes that my dad cooked, and one of them was an item that my mother taught him to make: almond tofu. In retrospect, the quasi-traditional Chinese dessert, which actually contains no tofu, sounds like it came right out of a 1970s recipe book, as it was simply canned fruit syrup, cubes of almond-flavored gelatin, and pieces of canned peaches, pears, and - my favorite - cherries. But back then, whenever Dad made that dish, my heart (and stomach) would do a little dance inside.

As an adult, I crave my father's barbecue: I make a special request for it every time I fly home. (I suppose canned fruit no longer makes my stomach flitter the way it once did.) What special dish requests do you make of your family? Growing up, was there a certain thing that you were always excited to eat?

Let's Dish: What Is Your Signature Dish?

At some point in every reality TV cooking competition the contestants are asked to make their signature dish. The dish should define their culinary point of view, highlight their skills as a chef, and be incredibly delicious.

Summing all of these things up (on one plate!) seems like a difficult task. I find it hard to choose one dish that represents my entire cooking style. However, if I had to choose, it would probably be some form of nachos with a cocktail on the side. In my opinion, nachos are the ultimate party food!

Pantone Mugs and Plates

As someone who understands the need to find just the right color, I find both the Pantone Palettes Dinnerware and Pantone Mugs exceptionally fabulous. My personal favorite, Pantone 021C is a vibrant orange that just screams good morning! If orange isn't your thing, then perhaps a muted cup and saucer in four shades of burnt ochre? Either way, just make sure you get the right color to match your Pantone cell phone!

Pantone mugs are currently only available in the EU and are £8 each. The Pantone Palettes sets begin at $5.95 for tote bags and end at $14.95 for large cup and saucer sets. However if you act fast, they're on sale in several places. I really don't need another tote bag, but think of how cute it would be full of fresh farmer's market veggies!

Simple Tip: Easy Way To Dry Wine Glasses

Drying wine glasses can sometimes be a pain. Towels can leave awful streaks and lint, and sitting them on the counter causes condensation spots to form, and besides the lip is making a perfect seal with the counter meaning there's no air coming in to help out. Just imagine, if only there was a way to get air flowing into the glass... Turns out there is and it's one of those "'Doh! Why didn't I think of that?" tricks. To dry your wine glasses, just set down two chopsticks parallel on top of a dishtowel and place the glass on top! Square shaped chopsticks work best, but as long as you set them far enough apart, the round ones work too.

FantaSuteki Platters: Love Them Or Hate Them?

I found these platters over at Notcot and immediately fell in love with them. Designed by Masaru Iwata, the FantaSuteki platters appear to be plain embossed dishes, but when you add soy sauce the images appear. I love them! What do you guys think? Love them or hate them?

Let's Dish: What's the Star of Your Thanksgiving Meal?

A fellow Sugar staffer and I were discussing the subject of stuffing versus dressing when the conversation got a little sidetracked. When I mentioned that it (whatever you want to call it!) was the star of last year's Thanksgiving meal, we started sharing the dishes we're most anticipating this holiday. For TrèsSugar, it's mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce; for PetSugar, it's apple pie. To CasaSugar, the answer's obvious: the bird!

The star of my supper always seems to alternate between sourdough bread stuffing and a vegetable side, like these beloved brussels sprouts with bacon. What dish do you consider to be the star of your Thanksgiving feast?

Was This Dish Named After Someone?

Call it a predilection, an idée fixe, or simply a weird fascination, but I've always had a penchant for Continental dishes with unique names and even more intriguing histories. But it wasn't until I took the time to look up some of the foods that I realized many of the dishes aren't just named after their creator or an inspirational figure, but also other oddities, like locales, plays, and even battles.

Since many of you scored so well with your food trivia the first time around, just for kicks, I thought I'd test you again. If you're just getting started, here's the drill: I'll list an unusually named dish, and you have to guess whether it was named after a person or not. Ready? Go!
