Over the break I found myself at the local bar in my hometown. They had one specialty cocktail on the menu: KC's Pumpkin Pie - a concoction consisting of homemade pumpkin liqueur and Dr. Pepper, topped off with whipped cream.

Although it was a far cry from the expertly mixed cocktails I normally sip in San Francisco, I decided to give the drink a try.

Guns N' Roses isn't releasing another album, but Dr Pepper fans can get themselves a free bottle of soda yet again.

To promote its "Nothing Diet About It" campaign, Dr Pepper is giving away coupons for free 20-ounce bottles and - get this - two-liter bottles of Diet Dr Pepper. Dr Pepper Celebrates Guns N' Roses Release With Free Sodas

Earlier this year, Dr Pepper announced that it would be giving a free soda to "everyone in America" Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy, 17 years in the works, arrived anytime in 2008. This Sunday, Nov. 23, the agonizing wait will finally be over, and the people will have their Chinese Democracy - as well as a free Dr Pepper.

Dr Pepper has been behind the efforts of lead singer Axl Rose from the beginning. “We never thought this day would come," said Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing, "but now that it's here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper's on us."

Do You Want Chocolate Covered Cherries in Your Dr. Pepper?

I'm a fan of Dr. Pepper, and I'm a fan of chocolate covered cherries, however, I'd never thought of mashing the two flavors together. Fortunately - or unfortunately depending on how you see it - someone at Dr. Pepper did. This year the latest limited edition flavored soda on the shelves is Cherry Chocolate Diet Dr. Pepper. It's only available for a limited time, but if history repeats itself, it may hit shelves more permanently. In 2004, Dr. Pepper announced a limited edition Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper that is now available year round; it was followed by Berries & Cream Dr. Pepper. The new Cherry Chocolate flavor is only the third flavor extension in Dr. Pepper's history.

Has anyone out there seen it on their store shelves? If so, have you tried it?

Taste Test: Dr Pepper Popsicles

A few weeks ago, San Francisco found itself in the middle of a big heat wave. Everyone at the Sugar HQ was melting to their desks and in need of a cool treat. That's when I remembered an impromptu purchase I'd made the week before.I was at the local drugstore and noticed a display of Soda Pops Freezer Pops at the front counter. They were like old-school Otter Pops, only in soda flavors: Orange Crush, Dr Pepper, 7-Up, and A&W Root Beer. I kind of have a thing for Dr Pepper, so I picked up a pack of those. At only $2 a box (10 pops in each box), I probably should have picked up one of each kind. But I didn't, and we only had the Dr Pepper to taste. So how did it taste? Find out when you read more.

The popsicle - that definitely hit the spot during the heat wave - was nice, cool, and icy. However, it was also too sweet, and didn't taste much like Dr Pepper. There was that weird fruity-prune flavor that Dr Pepper has, but it wasn't as successful as Dr Pepper flavored Jelly Bellys.

Overall, I don't think I'd buy them again. They were a fun distraction, and definitely worth the 20 cents per popsicle, yet they weren't that satisfying. Next time I'll pick up the Root Beer flavor and see how that goes.

Would You Eat These Soda-Flavored Doughnuts?

Last time I went to the store, I spotted these doughnuts in flavors such as Hawaiian Punch, Orange Crush, and Dr Pepper. At first, I was curious and somewhat puzzled: Why would anyone think to pair soda flavors with doughnuts?

Ultimately I'm not sure what to think of this concept; I'm inclined to believe that food and beverage companies are running out of novelty ideas. Have you ever come across these doughnuts?

From the time I first laid eyes on Dr Pepper-filled bubble gum decades ago, I've been a sucker for trying new chewing gum flavors. Although I've tried everything from Orbit Maui Melon Mint to Trident Splash Apple With Raspberry, I ultimately return to the tried-and-true Trident Original Flavor. It's always soft, and has the perfect amount of freshness without overpowering my tongue. Do you share the same feelings? What's your favorite chewing gum of all time?

Sounds like Iron Chef wines will need to make room for some company: Top Chef wines. The New York Times reports that Bravo is moving beyond mere product placement on its shows, and is licensing its own line of products. Besides wine, the cable network's planning floral arrangements, cutlery, and cooking classes. In case your screen wasn't sufficiently overwhelmed with product plugs from Glad, Swanson, and Diet Dr Pepper, future Top Chef episodes will feature food-and-flora arrangements (such as a mix of daisies and brussels sprouts) in the background, with an onscreen graphic telling where to purchase the products.

Want to chop like a cheftestant? There'll also be branded knives from Master Cutlery and online cooking classes led by the contestants. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show while sipping on TC wines by Terlato Wines International, the group behind big labels like Santa Margherita and Rutherford Hill.

With waning advertising revenue, a number of media brands have turned to product licensing to bring in much-needed profits. In the past, Bravo charged a fee for featuring the likes of Glad and Swanson on Top Chef. But with its new licensing arrangements, the network will ring in even more money, receiving cuts from the sale of all its products sold online.
