To the many of you who are convinced that greasy carbs and bacon are the best foods to eat when hung over: research is about to add some scientific validity to your argument.
According to researchers at Newcastle University's Centre for Life, food — specifically, bacon sandwiches — can do a hungover body good. Food on the whole speeds up the body's metabolism, helping it to deplete the body of alcohol more rapidly — but why bacon sandwiches?"Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein, which breaks down into amino acids.

Note to self: Mondays are not the new Saturdays. After judging a bartender karaoke competition hosted by Chartreuse on Monday night, I was hurting big time yesterday. An excruciating hangover usually comes with an intense craving for nourishment.

There's something about a big night of end-of-the-year partying that goes hand in hand with over-drinking and hangovers. The worst thing about a hangover is that there is no specific cure or little pill that can instantly make it go away (why hasn't anyone ever invented one??!). The way in which one deals with a hangover is a highly personalized matter and more times than not, it involves food.

After a brief hiatus with last week's Fabio-hosted reunion dinner, we went back to Vegas — and into Padma's hotel room — for this week's episode of Top Chef.
The final six chefs started things off by cooking breakfast in bed for their fearless hostess and her celebrity chef friend Nigella Lawson. For the elimination challenge, each contestant created a dish for a party, drawing inspiration from different casinos on the strip.

There's a nasty cold going around the Sugar office, which makes me want to whip up a big vat of chicken noodle soup. Though honestly, chicken soup isn't something I crave when I'm sick — unless I have a stomach flu, in which case, chicken broth is basically all I can eat.
Assuming you can keep food down and you're not nursing a hangover, what comforting foods do you use to defeat a cold or get over an illness?

I'm a huge snacker, and admittedly have more than a few downfalls. One of them is popcorn. Combine this with a shipment we recently received of new popcorn from Cape Cod Chips, and you can guess where the story is headed.
