Ever since I heard the news that President-elect Barack Obama will most likely have to
retire his BlackBerry, I couldn't help but wonder how he would incorporate his love for technology into the White House. It's already rumored that he hopes to be the first American president
to have a laptop on his desk in the Oval Office, so what other high-tech toys could make the list?
Well according to the Associated Press, who asked numerous interior designers to suggest changes for the White House, many agreed that
modern, high-tech, and green designs would be best suited for Obama's home needs.

I don't know if I could ever be as comfortable displaying my mess of cords like the apartment dweller in this admittedly breathtaking
photo from Desire to Inspire, but I'm definitely less anal about having visible cables running from my beloved tech to my outlets.
You can
try and try to hide and gather your cords, but at some point, you have to become all Zen about and say, "I have visible cords and that's fine." Trust me, you'll sleep better.

The love for fonts goes deep here at geeksugar, whether it's for the
freebies or the
eager identification.
Now you can express it (albeit steeply) with the
Font Clock ($450), which has twelve different classic fonts inside of it.
You get the retro design of a classic flip clock (
also beloved here), with the satisfaction of identifying what design is used to tell you it's half past midnight.

The glamour of an old-timey movie set or photography shoot can now be yours! CB2's
Photography Floor Lamp ($100) has succeeded in making something very industrial blend right into modern decor. Though I hope the light from this lamp isn't as white and bright as what they need for shoots, I think I could see this in my living room.

Being the photography nerd that I am, I instantly fell in love with this unique lamp. It's not just any ordinary lamp, it's a light table for photo slides! How cool (and totally geeky) is that?!

You know how I feel about using your laptop in
goofball ways when you're at home, but with today's sense of urgency, you want to use your computer any way and anywhere you can. I'll never stop advocating beautiful desks, but sometimes you want something different. Check out an Apartment Therapy reader's place, where she brilliantly subbed in a
wall-mounted bookshelf to hold her desktop.

The "home office" ain't what it used to be. You used to have to use a spare bedroom with some awful looking computer desk and truly boring accessories, but these days, when you can go light and laptop, the "home office" becomes something less obtrusive and easier to pull off. Of course, since you can use a laptop anywhere, TV characters literally do, and sometimes it's admirable, sometimes it's interesting, and sometimes it's just questionable.

These days I tend to just look for a desk lamp that can do what it's supposed to do: light up. Even when it has a nice second feature, like this
lamp/iPod dock, I just want a utilitarian lamp.
But I could totally ignore all that for this
USB Desk Lamp by Japanese Design firm Conof, which provides light and spare USB ports?
I have a hard time keeping my desk clean already, but this desk would have a problem staying clear of my drool. It's that pretty. Sure, it's spare and simple, but it's not lacking in the right kind of details.

Not impressed with
Real Simple's sock tip to gather your cords? I know what you mean, because if you have to see the cords, you don't also want to see an old partnerless tube sock.
The Cable Box ($30) comes in handy because if the part of my cords I want organized is visible and even gathered in those little tubes, I'm not happy.
