Jamba Juice sure has a lot going on. It just rolled out probiotic smoothies and has been testing custom-blendable frozen yogurt, a new menu item that the company plans to expand over the course of the year. And beginning today, stores across the country will offer smoothies blended from both fruit and vegetables.

For now, the company's new Fruit & Veggie Smoothies come in three flavors: BerryUpBeet, Apple 'n Greens, and Orange Carrot Karma. All contain three servings of fruits and vegetables in every drink serving and are free of artificial flavors, preservatives, and high-fructose corn syrup. Jamba's Going Probiotic

Will probiotics still be big in 2011? Smoothie chain Jamba Juice is counting on it. Today it launched a new line of smoothies called Probiotic Fruit & Yogurt Blends.

The drinks, which are made with nonfat yogurt, soy milk, whole fruit, and a "specially formulated" probiotic boost, are high fructose corn syrup- and artificial flavor-free and geared toward strengthening immune and digestive health.

Three flavors are being rolled out in the nationwide launch: Vibrant Blueberry, with blueberries and strawberries; Thrivin Mango, with mango, peach, and passionfruit; and a probiotic version of the popular Strawberries Alive, which is blended strawberries and bananas.

This is just the latest in a slew of Jamba product releases that run the gamut from hot blended drinks to frozen yogurt. The smoothies don't come cheap - they range from $3.39 for 12 ounces to nearly $5 for 22 ounces - but they'd be worth checking out if probiotic's your thing. Do you think they'll catch on?

Jamba Juice Tests Out Frozen Yogurt Line

Between flatbreads and wraps, hot blended drinks, and oatmeal, what trend hasn't smoothie chain Jamba Juice tried to ride? Frozen yogurt - at least, until now.

Yesterday, it began piloting a new line, Whirl'ns. The fro-yo - which includes eight custom-blendable flavors with various toppings such as fresh fruit - is currently being offered in 22 Northern California stores but may go nationwide if successful.

Could following closely in the footsteps of Yogen Früz, Red Mango, and Pinkberry be the answer for a company that's struggled to branch out beyond smoothies? Your thoughts are welcomed below.

Burger King, Jamba Juice Hope to Start Your Day Right

Both Burger King and Jamba Juice are revving up their morning engines as millions of Americans head back to school.

This morning, Burger King rolled out its self-proclaimed "largest menu expansion ever" with a beefed-up lineup of items until 10:30 a.m.: a BK Breakfast Ciabatta Club Sandwich ($2.89), four Mini Blueberry Biscuits, served with vanilla icing ($1), and the BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter with eggs, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, and a biscuit ($4.29). In addition, the recently-acquired fast food joint, which has been serving Seattle's Best Coffee, is also venturing further into the coffee market with flavored iced coffees in mocha, vanilla, and regular flavors for $1.89.

The King isn't the only chain treating breakfast like royalty, however. Jamba Juice is also adding to the fast food breakfast madness with the "Better Start. Better Day" campaign. The program, which begins tomorrow morning, features the likes of Hearty Start, Power Start, and Balanced Start - meal combinations that include hot oatmeal with fresh juice or coffee, nutrient-enhanced smoothies, and blended drinks topped with whole fruit and granola.

As breakfast and brunch's biggest proponent, I welcome all morning menu items with open arms. Do you think you'd buy either Burger King or Jamba Juice's new offerings?

Have You Been Eating Much Oatmeal Lately?

What's old is new again. In an article about Quaker, Ad Age has proclaimed oatmeal to be "sexy again" and the new "'it' breakfast item." It's true that these days, morning eaters can get their fix everywhere from Starbucks to Jamba Juice to even selected McDonald's locations. That's no coincidence: research shows consumers are definitely ordering more oatmeal now compared to a few years ago. These numbers also apply to yours truly. I now have Starbucks oatmeal several times a week, since it's both wholesome and convenient to pick up with my coffee. What about you?

Jamba Juice Tackles McDonald's Smoothies With Drink Deal

When McDonald's tackled the frozen fruit drink market with the launch of Real Fruit Smoothies last month, competitor Jamba Juice put its game face on. The first attack came with a brazen parody of a Jamba Juice commercial that featured a "Cheeseburger Chill Smoothie"; it quickly went viral. Now, the smoothie chain's fighting back by honoring its competitor's smoothie coupons.

This week, Jamba Juice announced it will accept any McDonald's smoothie coupon or free voucher through Aug. 15 in major metropolitan areas, including New York, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, Sacramento, Chicago, Denver, San Diego, and Miami. And all isn't lost for those who don't have McDonald's coupons; they can still download $1 off coupons online.

Jamba Juice is likely feeling the pinch, especially since McDonald's store sales are up from the new product launch. Would you rather drink the McDonald's version of a smoothie - or a Jamba Juice one?

New "Make at Home" Jamba Juice Smoothies

After working out it's really important to eat because it fuels lost energy and repairs damage to torn muscle. After my workouts I usually snack on an apple, some yogurt, or a fruit smoothie from Naked Juice. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen knows the importance of a post-workout meal too. Just last week she was spotted sipping on a Jamba Juice smoothie after leaving the gym. While a lot of the offerings at Jamba Juice can be calorie bombs, the chain does offer many low-calorie smoothies that can also be made with the addition of soy protein or nonfat yogurt. And in a new twist, it just started offering low-calorie "make your own smoothie" mixes at grocery stores.

Each package makes two eight-ounce smoothies, totaling 120 calories each - all you have to do is add apple juice. Besides being low in calories, they're made with real fruit, nonfat yogurt, and an antioxidant booster, and contain no corn syrup. So far only the chain's three most popular flavors are being offered: Razzmatazz, Mango-a-Go-Go, and Strawberries Wild. I'm bummed because I haven't seen any at my grocery store yet, but when I do, I am definitely going to try it.

In the meantime I'm going to make smoothies from scratch, like this green smoothie, almond berry banana smoothie, or chocolate-espresso smoothie. Are you a smoothie-holic like I am? What's your fave?
