I do a lot of entertaining, thus I'm always on the lookout for delicious new appetizer recipes. While I'll sometimes make an elaborate dish as a starter, more often than not, I want an easy and quick method that results in a scrumptious hors d'oeuvre. This recipe for a smoked mozzarella spread is just the kind of appetizer I love.

When I'm planning a party where vegetarians are in attendance, I normally like to serve a meal that's mostly meat-free. The main course must be veggie-friendly, as should several of the appetizers. Then, I offer one super special hors d'oeurve for the carnivores.

One of our favorite guilty pleasures here in Yum land is Velveeta — after all, I named my new car after it! — and we really, really love it in queso. But in this day and age, when food revolutions, Alice Waters, and CSAs reign supreme, I decided it was high time to try a queso made from real cheese.

I am always looking for easy appetizers to throw together for an impromptu gathering. Inspired by PartySugar's scrumptious caprese skewers, I decided it was time to test out a Greek salad skewer. All it takes is a quick chop of ingredients and in about 20 minutes, I had a plate full of these delectable bites.

At a recent wine tasting, I went off in search of the snack table in between sips. I was disappointed by the lack of cheese (how can any event serve crackers and no cheese?!) but totally inspired by a colorful spread of what I'll call "vegetable cocktails."
On the table were rows of stylish, V-shaped cocktail glasses.

Clams are quickly becoming a staple in my appetizer arsenal. They're my go-to shellfish when I'm sick of shrimp. I've made clams casino, grilled clams, and over the long weekend, I tried clams oreganata.

After obsessing over the perfect Thanksgiving menu, I hit send on the email — with the very important grocery list — to my father, only to realize I had forgotten one crucial item: the appetizer! I didn't want to serve something heavy or difficult to make, and I didn't have time to browse the Internet in search of inspiring hors d'oeuvres ideas.
Thus, I decided to make baked goat cheese.

Sometimes a cheese plate is too predictable, and a salad seems boring. In those moments, I like to fix up a platter of these arugula-adorned crostini, which deliver both the richness of blue cheese and some greenery to get your meal going. To balance out the bitter greens and pungent cheese, I slice up a loaf of sweet cranberry-walnut bread, though any fruity and nutty dough will do.

Figs are one of my favorite late Summer, early Fall fruits. Thus, after making bacon-wrapped dates, I looked for a similar recipe that used fresh figs. To my delight, I came across this Sandra Lee recipe that combines figs, goat cheese, and prosciutto.

Everything tastes better with bacon, and dates are no exception! I recently went to an end-of-Summer barbecue and couldn't stop eating these crispy bacon-wrapped dates. Of course, I had to ask the hostess for the simple recipe to share with you.
