Below, OnSugar blog Fresh Tart makes the most of leftover pate brisee — and the end of the season's apples and pears — by rolling out a rustic galette.
You can thank the asparagus & leek tart for this treat. The original pie crust (pate brisee) recipe makes two crusts (I halved it for the posted recipe), so I had extra dough sitting in the fridge. I brushed over it a couple of times, thinking I'd probably make another quiche and freeze it. But then I noticed my fruit bowl, holding two very ripe pears, and two dusky apples, and well...a tart was born.

One of the demos I had the pleasure of watching over the weekend at the Food Network's South Beach Wine and Food Festival was lead by Iron Chef Michael Symon. The Cleveland native, who recommends only eating "food that your grandparents and great grandparents can recognize," made fresh pasta with a scrumptious-smelling simple tomato sauce. While cooking, Symon expressed a lot of his strong opinions and spoke at length about garlic.

This year, coffee and breakfast have been the name of the game for fast food and casual chains. Last week, Burger King announced it'd soon be serving specialty coffee in a partnership with Starbucks-owned Seattle's Best — part of the company's goal to bring "new and improved" products to a.m. customers.

With the 2010 Olympics, Valentine's Day, the NBA all-star games, Chinese New Year, and President's Day all lumped together in one long weekend, this week has been pretty much the longest string of celebratory events ever. On top of it all, Fat Tuesday — aka Mardi Gras — happens to be today, which is a surefire way to end the festivities with a bang. If you can't make it to the French Quarter to celebrate with beads and beers, bring the occasion to your own home with a few Cajun and Creole classics.
