Do You Buy Wine Online?

Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher, wine columnists and founders of Open That Bottle Night, recently assessed the world of online wine, only to find it came up short.

"Some really fine stores out there haven't spruced up their sites since dirt was invented," they lamented. They did, however, manage to find a handful of wine sites that do online wine sales right.

I've purchased hard-to-locate bottles of wine online for a couple of special occasions, and never had a problem. Still, if I ordered wine online all the time, I'd be screwed on a couple of last-minute hostess gifts, and stuck with quite a hefty shipping bill. How about you?

Does It Annoy You When a Restaurant's Menu Is Not Online?

The other day DearSugar was complaining because she couldn't find a restaurant's menu online. While I prefer not to check out a menu before eating out, sometimes it's nice to look at the price range. And if the menu is not online, it can be annoying. How do you feel about the matter?

This Year's Best Online Recipe Resource

As part of our Best of 2008 coverage we asked you what website is your favorite resource for recipes. The results are very close: Food Network beat out Allrecipes by one vote! Yum and I agree with the majority and are making Food Network the editor's pick for best online recipe resource.

Although I was initially taken aback by the site's recent makeover, I've come to love the new Food Network. Besides the huge collection of easily searchable recipes, I enjoy the videos and behind-the-scenes details. Why do you log on to Food Network?

I headed to Safeway to pick out the best wines - all of which are under $20 - for hostess gifts. I've tasted and enjoyed these wines and would bring them to a party. Can't Pick Up The Phone, Order PIzza Online Instead

If calling for a pizza has ever seemed like too much work, then I've got good news for you. Pizza Hut has just announced that it's offering online ordering at just about all of their US locations. They're even allowing you to create a "pizza playlist" for both delivery and carry-out options. So, you ask, what exactly is a pizza playlist? It's a customized list that contains favorite pizza orders, this way you can re-order with just one click. If you find this news a bit bizarre, I should mention that Pizza Hut actually started online ordering in 1994. Oh and the best part is that you can actually order up to seven days in advance.

Next Up For Twitter: Wine

Those who've been mystified by Twitter's business model will find themselves further intrigued by the social networking sensation's latest venture: a Twitter wine label.

Fledgling, as it's called, launched today both online and on Twitter. For $20, oenophiles and Twitter fiends can choose between a California Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, both produced by custom wine facility Crushpad. For each bottle purchased, $5 will go to Room to Read, a world literacy organization.

The partnership between Twitter, Crushpad, and Room to Read - all based in San Francisco - is being labeled the largest online wine project to date. Would you be inclined to buy a bottle of vino from Twitter?
