Come Party With Me: Annabelle's Birthday - Invite

Meet Annabelle Buffy Durbin, FabSugar's cutie-pie, social butterfly Frenchie. Always the adorable center of attention, Annabelle's fourth birthday is on July 14 and Fab's throwing her a paw-ty next weekend.

She asked me to help with the the planning, so all this week I'm sharing the details with you. Consider hosting a party for your pet! Before we can talk doggie cupcakes, Fab has to send the invite.

I started by dropping and dragging the image into Photoshop. Then, I cropped the image, cutting out the excess top and bottom. I copied and pasted it into a new larger window. From there, I added this text:

Would You Eat Dogmeat?

I'm a huge pet lover and even though I'll eat just about anything, I'm pretty positive I couldn't knowingly order up dog. However if the Seoul city government has its way, dogmeat could be reclassified as livestock and will legally appear on menus in South Korea. Right now it appears illegally and there are no hygiene regulations regarding slaughter. So tell me, could you ever order dog?

With the recent frightful pet food scare, many people have turned to making their own pet food or going to organic, high-end solutions. A London bakery has decided to take it to the next step by creating treats that can be enjoyed by pets and owners alike.

The Alldog Bakery is proudly stamping their products as, "made with human quality ingredients," and their range includes treats such as Honey Hearts (wholemeal flour, maize meal, milk, honey and coconut), Carob Crunch (heart shaped carob cookies), Liver Love (savory crackers with a hint of garlic) and Doggy Doughnut. All of which are made with natural ingredients, no preservatives or additives. They're good for you and your pup, but I don't know if your dentist would approve, apparently they're "much harder than human biscuits to suit dogs' teeth".

Make Your Own Pet Food

We've received a bunch of emails lately about cooking for pets. The news of tainted pet food that sadly killed a bunch of beloved ones, and sickened many more, has gotten everyone clamoring for ways to make treats of their own. I don't actually own any pets (we're still working on asking the landlord to bend her no dogs policy), but can understand why this is a big concern. So to help out, I've rounded up a bunch of (better-educated-than-me) posts and resources to help you on your journey of homemade cuisine for your pets.

However, before you start be sure to check with your veterinarian first. Each animal and species may have different dietary needs.

Before you begin, be sure to consider whether or not homemade food is better for your pet or not.
Chiff.com has put together some great nutritional information to consider before making your own pet food.
Medical News Today has come up with a tip sheet regarding cooking for your pet.
Be sure to read the reviews before you buy, but there are a lot of pet food cookbooks out there.

Let's Dish: What Are Your Party Planning Pet Peeves?

To celebrate my birthday, I invited everyone I know to join me for happy hour. I took the time to make and send a special invite. However, I was shocked by how many friends didn't read it. One person thought the party was the day I sent the invite, another went to the wrong bar, and two people showed up four hours after the specified time. Not reading an invitation is my biggest party planning pet peeve. I made it a point to provide all the necessary details, so why can't my guests take five seconds to read the text? Since we all host parties in some form or another, I'm sure you have party planning pet peeves, too.

So whether it's a guest that shows up empty handed or your roommate's uninvited friends crashing, do tell: When planning a party, what behavior bugs you?

Let's Dish: What Are Your Wedding Pet Peeves?

When I chatted weddings with Gail Simmons a couple of weeks ago, she shared her tips for hosting an eco-friendly big day and let me know her wedding pet peeves. "When the wedding doesn't reflect the personality of the couple, that really bugs me." Also on her list: a menu that lacks creativity, and dessert buffets. "Twenty-foot-long tables covered in cakes and desserts - it's so wasteful, people take one slice and don't really need or want more than that."

I agree with Gail to an extent, I've never been a fan of buffets - but not because they're wasteful, because they promote overeating! My biggest pet peeve at a wedding reception, however, is a bad Champagne toast. Oh and running out of alcohol is a big no-no.

Let's Dish: What Are Your Restaurant Pet Peeves?

A couple of week's ago I was at one of San Francisco's most well-regarded and popular restaurants. While I enjoyed the overall experience - the food was divine, the waitstaff friendly, the location hip - I couldn't get over one thing. As illustrated by the picture above, the food arrived at our table before the drinks! This is one of my restaurant pet peeves: I can't stand it when food comes before drinks. You order the drinks before the food, so it's not logical for the food to appear first.

Now that I've confessed mine, I want to hear about your restaurant pet peeves. Whether it's an overbearing waiter or uncleared plates, do tell: what drives you absolutely nuts when dining out?

Whether or not they want to admit it, all of the people in my life have some sort of kitchen pet peeve. My mother? She hates sticky floors. My friend Katie can't stand it when her husband loads two spoons next to one another in the dishwasher, because the silverware doesn't get fully clean. When my boy puts what he thinks is recyclable (but is really just trash) into the recycling bin, I go insane. Do you have any gripes about what drives you crazy in the kitchen?
