As America increasingly becomes a gourmet nation, large food corporations are trying to change with the times. According to a story in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, companies like Campbell's and Nestlé are adapting back-of-the-package recipes to appeal to home cooks with more nuanced palates. Reading the article made me realize that I don't think I've ever made a recipe that comes on the back of a bag of chocolate chips or a box of saltine crackers. Have you?

Do You Share Food With Co-Workers?

I do a lot of cooking, but since I live alone, I don't always have someone to share my meals with. Thus, I bring food into work. I'll leave desserts and breakfast items in the kitchen and sometimes, I'll plate up a special appetizer - like smoked salmon crostini - for us to enjoy at our desks during the afternoon. How about you? Do you bring food into work to share with co-workers?

Sourdough Bread: Love It or Hate It?

I'm currently going through a fresh bread obsession, and I've been buying an Acme loaf almost every day to snack on with butter, salami, and cheese. Although I often crave sour baguettes, Mr. Yum doesn't care much for sourdough, so I bring home a sweet baguette instead. Yet, I can't understand how anyone could possibly not love the tangy, yeasty finish of sourdough bread - I'm such a fan. What about you?

Do You Belong to a CSA?

The Atlantic finally broached a rather touchy question I have quietly wondered for a long, long time: are CSAs a ripoff? In case you aren't familiar with a CSA, short for "community supported agriculture," it's basically a service wherein you buy a subscription of locally grown or raised produce, eggs, or meat and receive a share every month. I know the concept furthers the idea of good, clean, and fair food - yet at the same time, I've always found the prices to be outrageous and, quite frankly, beyond my means. I'd rather just head to the farmers market. What about you?
