Brittany Murphy Starring in Ramen Film

One week from this Saturday, I'm going to cancel any plans and clear my schedule. Why, you might ask? Because that's the release date of The Ramen Girl, a new movie starring Brittany Murphy.

The independent movie, produced by media8, follows a young American woman (Murphy) who moves to Tokyo for her boyfriend. Upon getting dumped, she decides her life's calling is to make noodles, and seeks the guidance of a stern but wise master ramen chef. To see the trailer, read more.

I thought this was a joke - some sort of spoof - before coming to the realization that it's simply the most random movie ever to be made. Brittany Murphy? In a movie about ramen? Her lines couldn't be more cliché: "I want to cook ramen. I want to make people happy the way you do . . . There's something about the Japanese and making the perfect bowl of soup. It's kind of beautiful." It also looks to be the campiest, least convincing movie of all time. Yet somehow, if only for the food porn aspect, I'm unabashedly excited to see this movie.

One thing's for sure: I'm not going to watch this movie without having a bowl of ramen afterward. Check out the trailer below. Will you be watching The Ramen Girl?

Cup Noodles Gets Greener

Even the biggest foodies among us have consumed our fair share of instant Ramen - I did go to college, after all. But I always steered clear of Cup Noodles, the Ramen you cook by adding hot water to a styrofoam cup, which you then throw away. It just seems wasteful, and the fact that the cup is made of styrofoam makes it even worse!

Fortunately, it seems the Cup Noodles folks are moving into the 21st century: Treehugger reports that Cup Noodles is now selling reusable cups for its to-go Ramen soups in Japan. The "Cup Noodle Refill Starter Pack" includes a container called "My Noodle Cup," with a cup liner that Ramen fans can customize with their own designs, as well as soup refills.

I applaud the effort, but I can't help but wonder why you wouldn't just buy the regular Ramen noodles and make them in a bowl or mug. I guess because you're on the go, or too lazy to wash a dish, which makes me think that those folks will still opt for the styrofoam cup version. What do you guys think?

At the Yunessun Spa Resort in Hakone, Japan you can enjoy more than 25 different kinds of spa related services and recreational water activities. While there are plenty of normal spa treatments, and wild water slides for the adventurous, it is their unusual foodie soaks that keep folks interested. From now until September 26, you'll be able to enjoy a ramen bath, with or without curry.

If the idea of soaking in broth doesn't tickle your fancy, then perhaps a soak in green tea, coffee, or red wine will do the trick?

Cheese Please! Some Comfort Foods Span Generations

Do you crave ice cream or feel comforted by mac and cheese? You're not alone. These classic American treats are considered comfort foods by eaters of all ages. According to a new survey by the Center for Culinary Development and Packaged Facts, certain comfort foods span generations from Baby Boomers to Generation X and Gen-Yers.

The survey of 3,700 people found that sweets top the list of comfort foods, no matter how old you are - and even more so if you're female. But there were also some interesting discrepancies in what different generations consider comforting. Keep reading
