Saucy PETA Campaign Links Vegetarianism to Virility

Animal-rights organization PETA is known for its head-turning campaigns, and its latest one is no different. PETA Asia Pacific's newest ads feature model-actress Alicia Mayer in a lingerie set holding a suggestive banana, provoking, "Eating meat got you down? Get it up! Go vegetarian." PETA states:

A man who stuffs his belly full of dead pig flesh in the kitchen might end up delivering dead wood in the bedroom. High cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, prostate cancer and inflammation, and hormonal imbalances cause the vast majority of all cases of impotence. The good news is that medical science has proved that all of these conditions can be virtually eliminated with a low-fat vegan diet.

My guess is that this campaign is part of an effort by PETA to turn more guys into vegetarians. After all, masculinity has long been associated with eating meat. While I find the ad entertaining, I'm not sure it will be enough to convert insecure men. Do you find the tagline amusing or offensive? And could you see it converting more males into vegetarians?

Is It OK to Use Sexuality to Promote Vegetarianism?

While I don't have a problem with consuming any kind of meat, I do find it troublesome when women are portrayed as a type of meat. Although exploiting the female body to promote vegetarianism or veganism is nothing new, a recent article in the New York Times highlights the trend. The article discusses a vegan strip club - Casa Diablo - in Oregon that attempts to convert meat-eating males to veganism, as well as a Los Angeles dance group - the Vegan Vixens - that performs at events and trade shows. Both parties are happy to be a part of a growing group of vegans who don't mind showing a little skin. Here's a quick excerpt:

Vegans who use sexuality to promote the cause say it is a good way to convert carnivores.

It's a known fact that sex sells, but I can't help but feel this movement is a step backward. What do you think about it? Is it OK to use sexuality to promote vegetarianism?

Do Women Wine Drinkers Have More Fun in Bed?

Don't fear your lush lifestyle. A new study has found that drinking two glasses of wine a day could add a significant boost to a female's sex life. The study, which was conducted at Florence's Santa Maria Annunziata Hospital, will be published in this October's Journal of Sexual Medicine.

It received feedback from 800 Tuscan women between the ages of 18 and 50 using the Female Sexual Function Index, a measuring system with a scale from two to 36 that's employed by physicians to assess the sexual health and satisfaction of women. Women who drank two glasses of wine a day scored an average of 27.3 points. Those who drank one glass averaged a 25.9 rating, and non-drinkers registered at a mere 24.4.

"The aspects of wine and sexuality have been well known since the time of Ancient Greece," added Nicola Mondaini, the study's lead author. How do you feel about the findings?

Gastrosexual: The New Metrosexual?

Much like the sudden rise of the metrosexual, a recently released study discusses the rapid growth of the next major male demographic: the gastrosexual. According to the Daily Mail, these men use their culinary skills to impress their friends and potential love interests.

Leading the pack of gastrosexual men are celebrity chefs, like Jamie Oliver, Danny Boome, and Gordon Ramsay, who glorify the high-stakes world of the restaurant kitchen. PurAsia, the food company that published the report, entitled "Emergence of the Gastrosexual," said in a public statement:

We found that cooking for this new generation isn't simply a matter of refuelling. For them it's an enjoyable experience and something to be relished - they cook for pleasure, praise and potential seduction.

Restaurant chefs have always been macho, but I'm curious to see if this motivates more men to cook. What do you think of the development? Is there a gastrosexual in your life?

NBC Pulls PETA Super Bowl Ad For Being Too Provocative

Animal rights organization PETA has always produced campaigns that have been the subject of contention. And, with Super Bowl Sunday - the biggest day of the year for advertising - looming around the corner, the group has naturally found itself in a hotbed of controversy. NBC has rejected PETA's newest TV spot, aptly titled "Studies Show Vegetarians Have Better Sex." According to the network, the ad - which shows scantily clad women in salacious positions with vegetables - "depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards."

The provocative commercial isn't PETA's first suggestive spot. Last year, PETA began its massive campaign linking vegetarianism to virility. Its ads included pictures of women in lingerie with the slogan "Get it up! Go vegetarian." Watch the clip of the banned commercial below, and tell me whether you think NBC was right to pull this suggestive ad.

Was a San Francisco Chronicle columnist on point when he insinuated that PETA is using porn to sell nature? Or is NBC out of line in banning the ad at a time when TV shows run rampant with violence and murder?

Would You Eat This Animal Part?

There are loads of gimmicky restaurants out there, and the one that's getting all the attention right now is the penis restaurant in China. That's right, quit your giggling, I did indeed say penis. According to the folks at the Times - who tried several different kinds - it was actually pretty tasty. In fact, they describe the bull's privates as "sweet and crispy, with a deep taste of soy and honey."

Why would anyone eat penis? Aside from the surprisingly pleasant taste, the more than 30 types of animal-penis dishes - that's yak shown above - are said to strengthen a man's sexual ability.

So tell me, would you ever eat penis?

Want Beautiful Skin? Try Eating Piggy Feet

My mom has always enjoyed unique foods. As a kid I remember her chowing down on plates full of things that I couldn't - at the time - enjoy. One of her fave weird treats happened to be pigs' feet. I always thought she was crazy, why on earth would anyone want to eat feet? Well, turns out she might not be so crazy after all.

In Tokyo, pigs' feet and other collagen rich foods are the latest craze. So much that restaurants are now serving more pigs' feet, jelly drinks, and turtle meat and blood. Soft-shell turtle used to be served mainly to men - it was thought to boost sexual performance - but lately the women are the ones chowing down. Sosuke Myagawa, owner of a soft-shell turtle restaurant said:

There is a lot of collagen in [soft-shell turtle] meals. All our female customers that come to eat collagen say their skins are doing much better the next morning, when they put on makeup.

So there you have it, customers say collagen-loaded foods help their skin. Unfortunately there's no quote from the experts; however, the fact that my mom has amazing skin is proof enough, right?

According to this week's Life & Style, when dining out, hot hollywood couple Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo select dishes that are healthy and light, such as assorted sushi. Why skip the steak and desserts? Because the lighter menu choices are perfect for setting the mood for a steamy evening. Rich heavy foods lower the libido making the stomach and heart work overtime with little oxygen left to stimulate the brain sexually.
