Come Party With Me: Super Bowl - Drinks

When I think of the Super Bowl one drink comes to mind: beer. If you have a large crowd coming, consider getting a keg of your favorite beer. A keg should be ordered several days in advance and picked up the morning of the game. If your group is small, stock up on an assortment of brews and plenty of ice. To get the party going, make Jell-O shots. When guests arrive hand them a gourmet, mojito-flavored Jell-O shot. Instead of using the classic powder to make the shot, this recipe calls for gelatin, rum, and simple syrup. Start making the shots several hours before the game as they'll need time to set. Mojito Jell-O Shots with White Rum and Fresh Mint
From Food and Wine

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons plus 3/4 teaspoon powdered unflavored gelatin (from 3 envelopes)
1 cup fresh lime juice
1 cup lightly packed mint leaves
1 cup white rum

Directions

In a small saucepan, cook the water with the sugar over moderate heat until the water is simmering and the sugar dissolves, about 4 minutes. Sprinkle the gelatin over the sugar syrup and whisk constantly over low heat until the gelatin has dissolved, about 1 minute.
Put the lime juice and mint leaves in a medium heatproof bowl and pour in the sugar syrup. Let steep for 15 minutes.
Stir in the rum. Strain the mojito mixture into a large measuring cup, pressing on the mint leaves with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
Arrange 30 small paper cups on a rimmed baking sheet. Carefully pour the mojito Jell-O mixture into the paper cups and refrigerate the shots until they are chilled, about 3 hours. Serve cold.

Serves 10.

Make Ahead: The Jell-O shots can be covered and refrigerated for up to 3 days.

Happy Hour: X-Rated Fusion Liqueur

While I normally prefer a classic cocktail or a glass of good whiskey, I've been known to enjoy a girly drink (or two) in my lifetime. Recently I've become obsessed with this brilliantly pink liqueur, X-Rated ($27).

At first, the cheesy name and vibrant color made me nervous. I was afraid it was going to be overly sweet - more like cough syrup than a luscious liqueur. However, the rosy liquid is absolutely delicious! A fusion of French vodka and organic blood orange, mango, and passion fruit juices, the liqueur tastes fresh not artificial. It's sweet, but not overly so. I served a chilled shot to girlfriends before a night on the town, but it would also be a flavorful addition to specialty cocktails.

If you're hosting a bachelorette party or bridal shower, consider serving X-Rated. Your girlfriends will love the taste and the experience of sampling a new liqueur. A bottle also makes a lovely birthday gift for a fashionable 21-year-old.

Kamikaze
From Better Homes and Garden magazine

Ingredients

2 ounces vodka
2 ounces lime juice
1 ounce orange liqueur
Lime wedge

Directions

In a cocktail shaker combine vodka, lime juice, and orange liqueur.
Add ice cubes; cover and shake until very cold. Strain liquid into vodka glasses set in a bowl of ice or, if desired, into a glass filled with additional ice cubes. Garnish with lime wedge.

Makes 1 shot.

If you've ever wished you could take alcoholic shots with you, then I've got ~~ridiculous~~ great news for you. ShotPak has "revolutionized" the single serve ready-to-drink alcohol market by offering 50ml cocktail or "STR8UP" shots in lightweight durable pouches. Why would you bring a pouch with you? Why not just bring a flask or the whole bottle? Well, according to ShotPak, their pouches are "safer and more convenient than glass" making them "perfect for tailgating, concerts, sporting events, vacations, frequent flyers, cruise ships" and more... Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

However, if it is your thing, you may be interested to know that they're introducing the "first ever" vodka energy drink - so now you can have your super-charged vodka anywhere you go.

Shot Glass Ice Cubes: Love It Or Hate It?

Normally I'm not a huge fan of odd shaped ice cubes (my mom loves stick ice cubes that she can slide into her bottles easily), but when geeksugar showed me these shot glass ice cubes, I went running to the product website to purchase them with visions of a vodka tasting party floating in my head. I loved them, but then I wondered, hmm perhaps they are not the most practical of glasses considering that they will melt and I mean taking shots is so college and I graduated 3 years ago...nah, I still love them. Burger King Launches Burger and Breakfast "Shots"

Burger King is continuing its strategy of adding petite-sized, lower-cost items to its menu at a time when food prices have soared but consumers are strapped for cash.

The fast food chain announced today that it will roll out new burger and breakfast "shots," or burgers in miniature sizes.

The sliders will come in a two-pack ($1.39) and a six-pack ($4.09) and will consist of a flame-broiled patty, ketchup, mustard, and two pickle slices, sandwiched between a plain bun. The fast food chain is also revving up its breakfast menu with BK Breakfast Shots. The breakfast sandwiches, which are available in a two-pack ($1.49) or a four-pack ($2.89) during the store's breakfast hours, contain egg, a "smoky cheese sauce," and a choice of ham, bacon, or a sausage patty.

This is probably another attempt by Burger King to offer smaller portions at higher prices, but I'm a sucker for all things mini, so I'm bound to buckle and buy some of the breakfast shots. What do you think of this addition to the menu?

I'm really intrigued by these edible shot glasses. They come in two fun kinds: candy cane and mint chocolate. After you shoot the liquor of your choice, you can munch on the shot glass itself! They also add a kick of flavor to anything you put in them. I think they'll make a fabulous hostess gift and am super curious to try them out. What do you think?
