In terms of cooking seasonal cuisine, late September and early October can be a confusing time. The farmers markets are still overflowing with heirloom tomatoes, while butternut squash and apples begin to appear, too. I can't help but wonder, am I supposed to make Caprese salad or butternut squash soup?

While I've had the classic pairing of pork and apples, and the more unconventional combination of pork and peaches, I've yet to try pork with melons. However, this enticing recipe brings the two ingredients together expertly with Jamaican jerk seasoning and honey.
One can only imagine that the spices provide a nice heat and the honey adds a subtle sweetness.

Ever since we had a detailed discussion in the office about how much we love lamb, I've been in the mood for it. Because I don't make it all that often, I want it to be something special — yet not too expensive.
That's why I decided on a distinctive recipe for kofta, or ground meat kebabs, that calls for lamb, silky crème fraîche, delicate shallots, and pomegranate molasses for a complex yet delicate flavor.

After discovering my new favorite outdoor dinner fare, pork and mango skewers, and falling in love with Party's killer prosciutto, melon, and mozzarella brochettes, the two of us came to a consensus: certain foods simply taste better when they're served on a stick. Like nibbling on anything mini, there's something about the novelty of eating surf and turf, caprese salad, or pizza on a skewer that never seems to get old. I like to hope that the kebab trend will always stick around.

Skewers are quintessential Summer food. They cook quickly on the barbecue, keep the house cool, and bring everyone outside to enjoy the wonderfully warm weather! This recipe for ancho-chile-marinated pork skewered with mangoes is a perfect combination of spicy and sweet.

Although not as widely known as peanut butter and jelly, or salt and pepper, I consider melon and prosciutto to be a classic flavor combination. There is something about the sweet juiciness of the melon that so wonderfully complements the salty porkiness of the prosciutto. Throw some fresh mozzarella in the mix and you've got an appetizer that is insanely divine to eat!

This weekend might be a sunny one, and since I don't have any major plans, I'm thinking of inviting some high school friends over for an ultra-chill dinner. It's so casual that I'm not exactly positive what I'll be serving yet, but one thing's for sure: I'll definitely be grilling some of these skewers. They're goofproof to make, portable, and contain the perfect ratio of crunchy, charred bell pepper to spiced, succulent pork sausage and sautéed spinach.

A couple of weeks ago I read an article on the Atlantic's food blog that recommended making a grilled skewer appetizer with smoked cheese cubes wrapped in pancetta. The story reminded me of a delicious tapa I had years ago in a Spanish dive bar. Anxious to re-create the dish, I headed to the store and purchased thinly sliced pancetta and smoked mozzarella.
