Voodoo Doughnut Goodness

Good morning! We thought you might like to start your day with a plate of delicious-looking doughnuts. This photo and accompanying review was shared by 2savorypalates in the YumSugar Community.

No doubt many of you have heard of Voodoo Doughnut; the crazy and insanely delicious doughnut shop in Portland and Eugene where anything goes on a doughnut - namely the Bacon Maple Bar. My friend and I were in search of the perfect donut shop in our blog. Well, Voodoo was definitely a no-brainer for myself in Eugene, and honestly I'll take any excuse I can to head over there and try new things. The other place was a tiny little mom and pop donut place in Anaheim, CA, where people line up around the building and down the street for their signature blueberry donuts. If you're ever in any of these two areas of the states, please do yourself a favor and check them out.

Berry Tempting: Raspberry-Lime Rose Syrup

I'm a big fan of raspberry cocktails, so I knew the minute I came across a raspberry rose syrup that it'd be a must try. The recipe called for rose petals, but I substituted rose water, which I already had on hand (it can be found at Middle Eastern grocers or online at Amazon).

The cooking process is basic: Dissolve sugar in a wine-and-water mixture, cooking raspberries down until a gooey syrup forms. The finished product is not only sweet and tart, but also has a lingering floral flavor from the rose water. Do You Like Turkish Delight?

As a child, I first saw Turkish delight, or lokum, in the BBC adaptation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and I had to try it. It looked so strange and enticing! Ever since then, I've been a fan. The sugar-dusted, gummy, jelly-like cubes of candy are best fresh, so the only time I partake is when I find them at a legit candy shop. The rose water flavor is traditional, but too perfume-y for me; I prefer the fruit flavors. Some variations also have nuts. Have you tried it before? What did you think?

How Often Do You Eat Doughnuts?

After learning about the different types of doughnuts that exist in the world, I won't lie, I was totally craving a fresh-from-the-oven glazed doughnut.
