Can an Unwanted Spokesperson Ruin a Restaurant's Image?
Aug 14 2008 - 9:00am Like many young American women, Kendra Wilkinson loves the food at Olive Garden. However, unlike the majority of these women, Kendra is a Playboy Playmate, girlfriend to Hugh Hefner, and star of the reality show The Girls Next Door. On the series, she expresses her profound love for the Italian chain's artichoke dip and unlimited breadsticks.

I can understand their fears but I personally don't care which celeb likes Olive Garden or Outback, etc. I think in the end people eat where they want, not because of celeb endorsements so the execs should relax a little.

I agree with gab6784. If someone really likes your restaurant and gives it positive raves, accept the acclaim gladly!Smiling

Off topic, Mr. Hefner and some of his girlfriends visited the tourist attraction where I worked a few years ago, and stayed a while to eat in the food court where I worked. Mr. Hefner was one of the nicest, politest gentlemen ever to visit us, and the ladies were very sweet and undemanding. Company policy forbid us to accept tips but the group made a point of thanking us for our hard work. A few kind words that were much appreciated. Most of the celebs, real or wannabe, generally treated us like slugs. Nuff said, I'll stop now.Smiling

I don't think the restaurants can do anything about it, but I can see where they might not like people who contradict their image to be running around associating themselves with the chain.

Still, this colors my judgment of the girl's taste in food more than it colors my judgment of Olive Garden. Haven't been there since sophomore year homecoming. Have no plans to go back.

yeah. i understand the concern, kendra doesnt really jive with "when youre here, youre family"; though im sure theyre nice people.

but really i think its the food that people would stop coming for, not kendra's endorsements.

they say olive garden is the denny's of italian food.

Perhaps they should get the stick out of their rear ends. I understand where they are coming from from a business perspective, however if people are watching the girls next door anyway I don't really think they care about Olive Garden's family friendly "whatever", I know I don't.
Its like if someone you know were to confront you about doing pornography because they "caught" you on a website or something, but then you could always turn around and ask them what they were doing watching to begin with Eye-wink. I know strange analogy. But the point is unless you watch the "Girls Next Door" and have heard her "endorsement" you won't know about it because the only time I have personally heard it is from ..... watching the show.

I can see where the rest is coming from with the "family setting"...those families can just order takeout. lol

what this article fails to mention and i find so funny, kendra professed her love of OG while eating, in a restaurant, while on vacation... in ITALY!
isn't that a slap in the face to actual, good, authenic italian food?
it just goes to show you her lack of class and lack of culinary knowledge...
they should enjoy the press because (with the exception of their salad), the food is gross!

So Olive Garden is worried that people may not go there because a certain type of celebrity endorses them? Wouldn't those people be ones that choose not to think for themselves, allowing others to tell them where they should or shouldn't go? Those sort of lemming type consumers are keeping Olive Garden in business. Be careful who you alienate.

Kendra is by far the most annoying of the three girls next door anyway. That is one horrifying laugh.

The same unwanted attention crosses over into other products too. Burberry had issues in the 90s and early 2000s with English football hooliganism adopting their distinctive checked pattern. And every time some idiot shoots up a school, Jack Thompson, Esq. in Florida fires off another amicus brief detailing that the kid liked to play violent videogames like Grand Theft Auto (even if the kid didn't). It hasn't killed their brands yet. But that doesn't mean it doesn't annoy the heck out of their marketing departments, who have paid good money to establish a brand's identity.

I kindof see their point, but I think it works as long as she's never official. Nobody I know associates Kendra Wilkinson with Olive Garden, so I don't think they have anything to worry about by getting a few more young butts in the chairs. Do I think she'd be great in an Olive Garden commercial, probably not.

What I really want to know is how that girl eats unlimited breadsticks and still looks like that!

I don't really think a "chain restaurant" needs to worry about their image - chains have to have a uniform approach to their menu so they aren't exactly fine dining. Who cares if she likes it or not, I think The Olive Garden are being snobby!

I think that the people who know that she likes Olive Garden are obviously watching her show because I don't and that publicity is hardly going to reduce the amount of families that dine at Olive Garden. Lot's of rappers mention brands in their lyrics which are not appreciated either but if it results in a new target audience how can it hurt?
