&lt;li&gt;Add 2 tablespoons water; cover and cook over medium heat 5 minutes, or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring once. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Meanwhile, for cheese toast, lightly toast bread 3 inches from boiler heat for 1 to 2 minutes. Spread goat cheese on one side of each slice. Broil 3 inches from heat for 1 to 2 minutes, until cheese is softened.&lt;/li&gt;

8 thin slices crusty baguette

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Directions&lt;/b&gt;

&lt;li&gt;Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat until hot but not smoking. Add onion, garlic, and broccoli stems; cover, and cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are soft, about 15 minutes.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Add stock and salt; cover, raise heat to medium-high, and bring to a boil.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Add broccoli florets; reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, until florets are just tender, about 10 minutes.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Remove soup from heat, and let cool, about 10 minutes. Fill a blender no more than halfway to puree soup in batches until smooth.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Return soup to pot; stir in milk and cayenne. Cook over medium heat until heated through (do not boil).&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Heat broiler. Divide cheese among bread slices; toast under broiler until melted and golden brown, 45 to 60 seconds.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;li&gt;Spread soft butter or margarine on a large slice of white bread.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Carefully cut or tear a ghostlike shape out of aluminum foil.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Press the foil shape on top of the buttered bread. Sprinkle the bread generously with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Place the slices on a baking sheet and slip under a preheated broiler for about two or three minutes or until the butter is hot and bubbly.&lt;/li&gt;

It&#039;s super easy to get caught up in the moment of toasting, being fabulous, and having a little too much wine. This very thing happened to me last week when I was out with some girlfriends. I was so excited that I downed the rest of my Pinot Grigio in one gulp and slammed the wine glass on the bar a &lt;i&gt;teeny&lt;/i&gt; bit too hard. The glass broke, the gals laughed, and I was left feeling horribly embarrassed (and it&#039;s not the first time I&#039;ve done it!). Remember that glass is fragile and unless you want a wet messy splattering of dangerous shards at your next fiesta, set down those glasses lightly, and toast with care.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter&lt;br /&gt;
2 cups packed brown sugar&lt;br /&gt;
4 tablespoons corn syrup&lt;br /&gt;
1 (8 to 9) inch round loaf Challah bread&lt;br /&gt;
5 large eggs&lt;br /&gt;
1 1/2 cups half and half&lt;br /&gt;
1 teaspoon vanilla&lt;br /&gt;
1 teaspoon Grand Marnier&lt;br /&gt;
1/4 teaspoon salt&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In a small heavy saucepan melt butter with butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring, until smooth and pour into a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish. Cut 6 (1-inch) thick slices from center portion of bread, reserving ends for another use, and trim crusts. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit. In a bowl whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, Grand Marnier and salt until combined well and pour evenly over bread. Chill bread mixture, covered, at least 8 hours and up to 1 day.&lt;br /&gt;
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and bring bread mixture to room temperature. Bake uncovered, in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, 35 to 40 minutes.&lt;/p&gt;
