Peacock Melamine Tray: Love It or Hate It?

I was flipping through the latest Pottery Barn catalog when I came across this Peacock Melamine Tray (was $19 now $12). On one hand I think it's lovely and I absolutely adore birds. On the other, there's something rustic about it that irritates me to no end. I'm a bit torn, how about you? Would this tray find a place in your home?

College Cafeterias Are Going Trayless

In an attempt to cut costs and be more eco-chic, many college campuses have gotten rid of cafeteria trays. Instead, students are being forced to carry their meals on plates. The trayless cafeterias are seeing up to a 30 percent decrease in food waste, and with no trays to wash, the use of energy and water is reduced as well.

While school officials whole-heartedly embrace the change, many students are not happy. They dislike not being able to carry everything at once and are more inclined to spill.

I'm all for the discontinuation of cafeteria trays, not only because it helps the environment, but because it probably also causes students to eat less. Say good-bye to serving trays and say good-bye to the freshman 15! How do you feel about the trend?

With the weather warming up, I've turned my attention to alfresco entertaining. Last weekend, I suggested my guests and I grab our cocktails and appetizers and head out to the patio. Fingerprint Drink Tray: Love It or Hate It?

I've recently started collecting serving trays. They are wonderful for transporting food at dinner parties and make delightful gifts. However, one drink tray I will not be adding to my collection is this fingerprint drink tray. It has ugly bumps specially designed to fit your fingertips. It may seem practical, but the molded fingers really gross me out. They remind me of a dead zombie's hand coming out of a tomb. What do you think? Would you bring this tray home?

The Summer is heating up and there is no better way to cool down than with a refreshing, cold drink. Although my fridge is a newer model, it doesn't have a built in ice maker: I have to use ice cube trays to make ice. Currently I have only two trays which is problematic for entertaining, so I asked you to help me expand my collection of ice cube trays. Thanksgiving Tip: Refill Your Ice Trays

Before a party or a big feast like Thanksgiving, there are a couple of minor - yet impactful - things I always make sure to do. One is to empty the dishwasher; another is to refill my ice trays completely with fresh water. There's nothing more annoying than reaching for ice to go with water, punch, or cocktails, only to find that there's one cube left.

Add a note to your Thanksgiving planner: The morning of the big dinner, fill your trays with distilled water, which will prevent ice from appearing cloudy in the center. When guests arrive, you'll be able to serve them drinks with a just-made batch of ice. What little tasks help you stay on top of all the Thanksgiving mania?
