In the January issue of Bon Appétit magazine there's a recipe for homemade, fresh ricotta that I'm dying to try. Although the recipe only calls for three simple ingredients, it requires several cooking utensils. One of them is a good slotted spoon. Party Foul: No Serving Spoons

Recently I went to a wine tasting where there was a huge platter of lamb with no serving spoon. The lamb - which had a succulent red wine sauce - was sliced into small bite-sized pieces and served warm in a caterer's pan. Like not having enough eating utensils, not having the proper serving tools at a party is not okay. Some guests made do with toothpicks or paper plates, but it was a messy struggle to taste the lamb.
If you are going to host a party with a large quantity of food, be sure to have all of the equipment necessary to serve the food appropriately. This is especially important if guests had to purchase a ticket to the event.

A wire whisk is one of my favorite kitchen tools because it's incredibly versatile, necessary, and makes all sorts of delicious things. Recently I've noticed a growing trend in alternative whisk styles, so I asked you to help me bookmark them in the Yum Market on TeamSugar. You looked for whisks that are functional and made from a variety of materials. The one I am most eager to experiment with is Nigella Lawson's bliss whisk. It must make astonishingly emulsified vinaigrettes and incredible sauces. According to marcella - who saved the whisk - it's also easy to clean. Party Foul: Not Enough Utensils

I recently attended a small potluck dinner at a girlfriend's house. Seven of us were in attendance, yet only four forks could be found in the kitchen!

I didn't say anything when I helped serve the Champagne in a martini glass, a beer mug, and a mix of random wine glasses. I didn't say anything when we sat down to eat and had to share chairs. However, it was really hard NOT to say anything when there wasn't enough silverware, especially when five people live there! How could they only have four forks?

If you are going to invite people into your house for a meal, be prepared to serve them properly. Being in college or having just graduated is no excuse. If you lack enough silverware purchase plastic utensils, ask to borrow from a friend, or serve a finger food menu!
