As PartySugar mentioned, this year, Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year fall on the same day, which will make for an interesting celebration. On Sunday, I'll actually be ringing in the Lunar New Year with some close relatives, Chinese banquet-style, so I'm reserving the day before to enjoy with my guy. We're keeping it simple and making his favorite meal together: spaghetti topped with giant meatballs, sautéed Winter greens, and traditional shortcake and Champagne for dessert.

When planning a romantic dinner, it's important to make it different from the everyday meals you have together. The easiest way to do this is to set up a small table in an area you wouldn't normally eat, like by the fireplace or overlooking the window. Use placemats, cloth napkins, good china, and fine flatware.

Before you sit down to a romantic dinner for two on Valentine's Day, enjoy each other's company over a blushing cocktail. This drink is the perfect boy meets girl concoction.
Don't be fooled by the pink color; it's gin-based, so it's not for the faint of heart.

No romantic dinner is complete without a sweet finish and an occasion like Valentine's Day requires chocolate. Select a dish that's decadent, but can be made in advance. I recommend these creamy chocolate pots.

I'll be up front and say that Valentine's Day is not my favorite holiday. I'm an idealist who believes that every day should be full of love and affection. But I do appreciate that it's the perfect excuse to eat a surplus of chocolate, and better yet, just about the only occasion when it's acceptable to drink ridiculously girly cocktails.

Splurging on a pricey meal isn't the only way to celebrate come Feb. 14. Rekindle the flame by cuddling up over a warm Valentine's Day dinner at home.

Valentine's Day is this Sunday, but if you don't know what you're doing just yet, fear not. Restaurants may be booked, but there's plenty of time to make a festive, flirty meal with friends — or a romantic candlelit version with a special someone. In need of a few ideas?
