When it comes to panzanella — the classic Italian bread salad with tomatoes — I love every variation. While I've made it with heirloom tomatoes and arugula, I've never had the filling warm-weather dish with tuna and white beans.
But thanks to this recipe, I plan on doing so tonight!

Normally, I am the queen of the kitchen, but recently my sister and her best friend decided to treat me to a homemade dinner. Trish, my sister, is incredibly smart, so I wasn't surprised when she asked Chef Chris Behr, of San Francisco's SPQR, for an easy and delicious appetizer idea. He suggested making a thick white-bean puree for crostini.

A few weekends ago I got a craving for cassoulet: the day was cold and dreary and I was in the mood for a provencal French dish. It was a completely illogical desire: I've never spent time in the French countryside and I've never made cassoulet at home in my kitchen. After consuming cassoulet a few times at restaurants, I suddenly was ready to take a stab at making it on my own.
