Does Being Served a Whole Animal Make You Squeamish?
Yes. I don't like eating whole fish, or whole anything for that matter.

There are lots of traditions to consider when planning a Chinese New Year dinner. Fish, dumplings, noodles, and greens are normally consumed because they represent a sense of togetherness, abundance, and family. Apart from the fish, this menu is vegetarian friendly.

If you're scared of cooking whole fish because of how they look, I say it's time to approach that fear and kick it to the curb. Otherwise, how are you going to delight in this lovely grilled striped bass with orange-saffron butter? You can even have the fishmonger (the fish equivalent of a butcher) do all the squeamish work like gutting, cleaning and fin removal.

For a quick-cooking, healthy, and delicious meal, look no further than this recipe for salmon and greens in papillote. Crisp bitter escarole acts as a bed for the moist salmon and simple garlic-butter-tarragon sauce. The whole thing is wrapped in parchment paper and baked in the oven.

I could write a whole blog about sandwiches I make with Trader Joe's ingredients, from the Sloppy Jose to the naanwich. Of course, I love leftover sandwiches, so after enjoying TJ's marinated ahi tuna steaks for dinner, I used the extra fish to make a gourmet tuna melt with olives and sprouts. The photos don't do justice to how delicious it was.If you don't have a Trader Joe's near you, don't worry: you can use any leftover ahi tuna steak, roasted, grilled, or seared.

Since I make my sandwich obsession so public, my friends and family are always passing along recommendations and recipes. I was especially tickled by an article my mom tore out of an old Esquire magazine from 1989, entitled "New Hope For the Bread." My dad and I share a love of Esquire, so these sandos are well-suited to Father's Day.

Crab season is a big deal in San Francisco, and if you've ever tackled a whole crab to extract the sweet, succulent meat, then you understand what the fuss is about. Since we're right in the middle of Dungeness Crab Week, I'm celebrating with a New England-style crab roll filled to the brim with fresh Pacific crabmeat. You could put crabmeat on pretty much anything and I'd eat it (I'm still drooling over this salad). I devoured the sandwich version at a New England-style seafood joint in SF called Woodhouse Fish Company.

On this week's episode of Hell's Kitchen, the heat was turned up as the contestants were once again taught the importance of masterfully learning basic culinary skills. Last week it was all about frying the perfect egg and this week it was all about prepping fish. The show started off with the girls in turmoil from the recent elimination of team member Tiffani, and the boys united in their concern for the weakest link in their team, Aaron.
